I'd mentioned here before that with regrets, I've been scaling back on my guitar inventory. I've made some good progress with sales (although things are a bit slow right now) and two for one trades. For the 1st time in about 20 years I have less than 30 Guilds with 5 more listed for sale and likely another 4 or 5 after that. It's a bit sad for me but also a bit uplifting to be scaling back on the number of "things" including Guitars.

My goal is to get down to only Guild and Richie Crowder custom builds with one or 2 oddballs I use for various purposes. All my Gibsons are sold and I'm down to 4 Martins all of them listed for sale.

As a side note, I was going to give a couple Guild imports to our local Animal Shelter to auction off fror spme case which of course a Shelter always needs. One is the DS 240 and I'm going to donate that one. The other is the D 120E but I gotta tell ya, that really is one fine sounding guitar and it has some decent electronics so I'm keeping it for open mis night etc. I hadn't played it in quite a while but did yesterday and it has a rich, full voice , plays easily and looks really good. It's an all Hog model and has the all Hog warm voice I personally love. I recommend this model if you're looking for an affordable nice sounding instrument.

Keep up the good work. It's worth the effort (and pain and suffering). :)

I drove an hour to show a vintage dreadnaught acoustic guitar yesterday.

A young guy. I somehow knew instantly before getting out of the car he wasn't going to buy it.

He played well, tuned by ear really well, really a good guitar player, but he had to check his texts all the time, and then a friend pulled up and it was obviously time to go. He let me down gently saying he was "undecided". I said I'll be in town another couple hours if you decide you want it, but of course nothing and I'll probably never hear from him again.

I asked if he had a guitar better than this and he said no.

So a wasted trip to down, and a lot of gross fingerprints all over the guitar.

Company showed up in the late afternoon here, travelers on a motorcycle, and I played the guitar which sounded fine, really excellent actually, as well as very beautiful and I was glad I didn't sell it but it's still listed on CL and I'm wondering how many more times I'm going to put myself and the guitar through this as I only want to drop everything and drive to town on a very hot day for a sale, a "serious inquiry" as in if the guitar sounds good and plays good it's a sale.

Otherwise what's the point?

It was so hot on his sunny porch that the guitar was really hot when he handed it back to me, hot to the touch, which to me is guitar abuse.

Next time I'm going to insist on meeting at a coffee shop where it's cool rather than on someone's porch at 11am, and they won't let you in the house.

For all of the perceived and possible hassles of internet sales, they really are simpler, easier, and possibly more effective.

At this point I've sold no guitars in a long time, even though I'd like to, and actually bought another one, so no steps forward but a step back, but as far as problems go, this is a fairly pleasant one.

Great job Richard. It’s a hard thing to do, but you still have plenty of fine guitars to chose from! I’m sure you are making the new owners quite happy as well by letting go of some real beauties.

Guilded… I’ve sold a lot of things quite successfully on CL. If I meet someone they have to come to my area and I meet at like a local hotel lobby or outside a public place. If they are far away and ask, I might meet part way, but still more towards me.

They need to have skin in the game otherwise they are not serious. More likely just using you to try something they are curious about, or will use your perceived desperation to knock you down on price. If it’s a forum member that’s another story. Most members don’t play the typical CL/FB games…
