Spending most of my time with classical guitar lately, an affair has been languishing in my Suffolk garage, un-exposed… My super funky Guild M80 meets my lovely and raging little Ashdown Essex Blonde. These beautiful HB1’s, low-wind but full of soul, into a little 8w amp taken by legend designer Dave Green from its Matamp C7 original and built into a cute single 6V6 tone machine, tastefully labelled Essex Blonde (even better I’m just north of the Essex border) … just a marriage heading for heaven! I feel a Blues band coming on in my impending retirement from teaching!
BTW, if you’re not familiar with Matamp, think Peter Green’s tone on Albatross. Built for 60 years in Huddersfield, South Yorkshire, they are boutique built and amazingly individual. And loud! And the M80…. !

Ah nice! They are amazing people, just totally dedicated to the sound! I’ve never done the tour, must get up there. The C7 was my amp of choice for some years and one of those “shouldn’t have sold it” amps! Couldn’t find another so got the Ashdown which does a great job. Here’s a pic of C7 rig with my ‘63 Starfire V with hollowbody Weedon spec. (Didn’t sell it!!)
