Anybody have experience with one of these? Talking about one with the Franz pickup, not the Mickey Mouse. Would like to use it for jazz, but wondering what the neck is like.

Did the 3/4 version ever have the Franz? I thought they started with a DeArmond and then had a succession of Guild-built pickups.

Mine--it now has the correct knobs. DR Zebra strings tuned F# B E A C# F#. 1960 Ghost Label. A perfect rhythm guitar
for fast chord changes for me.

I have read elsewhere that some people with smaller hands like the 3/4 scale M-65s for Jazz. Maybe at Jazzguitar.be.

I have also read that some luthier attention to the bridges is often needed to get them to intone well enough for complex chord forms beyond fifth position to sound good. But this is often normal for short scale guitars with fixed bridges and non-adjustable bridge saddles. Nothing special to see here.

Ahh this is good info. I play a lot of chords up the neck so getting intonation right is essential. Always a challenge, but with floating and adjustable bridges you have more options for getting it right on an archtop.

My understanding is that the M-65 was a budget, student guitar, something aimed at Melody Makers and Mustangs.

But being made by Guild, it is also a fine guitar that can be made very playable if it isn't so immediately.

I liked my M-65 so much I needed a short scale solid body, so I got this Supro Super 7 a year later. I particularly wanted a Supro with the PU in the middle position if I couldn't get a dual PU model short scale guitar. Another "student" model.

And another player in the "student" guitar field. The little 3/4 Melody Maker:

My cousin's '59 Les Paul Junior Junior, short scale LP neck on a standard body.

Then there is a Gibson Kalamazoo from the '60s that rocked for 105 dollars at the time.
