I have two dreadnaught beauties from 1977 that need a little love. One I bought new as a kid, the other recently acquired.

I've yet to take them to a shop here in Los Angeles. Though I have taken several other guitars to various shops in town, I'm not sure I want to give any of those guys my babies.

The top two contenders so far are the famous McCabe's Guitar Shop and the guitar tech to the stars, David Neely at Neely Guitars.

Anybody here have experience with either or both?

I’ve seen the work come out of McCabes, and it seems to be good quality. I don’t know the other shop mentioned

Neely guitars has a large client base. But I don't recognize a single name on that list. Must all be local talent.

McCabe's says "No job is too weird"....

and one of their luthiers' middle name is "Like Butter".

so, I might try Neelys....:)

Neely's sounds like the place for your "babies"...

David recently did a restoration work on an old 1902 Martin 00-45 guitar for actor Richard Gere. This model was one of only three prototypes ever produced. The handmade quality of the instrument was so special and the restoration was so complete that Martin even reintroduced the guitar.

Legendary guitarist Steve Howe entrusted the prized 1964 Gibson he used on all of those classic YES albums to David’s hands – and that’s an undeniable seal of approval and testimony to David Neely’s expertise.

I did not have a good experience with Neely's. I went there because LA Guitars recommended him. It didn't work out. Maybe I wasn't famous enough or a regular client, like Ted at LA Guitars.
