Yesterday at California Vintage Guitars in L.A. I got to play what amounts to most of Guild's entire new inventory -- check out the list: http://www.californiavintageguitarandam ... d_Main.htm .

I knew something special was going on when I saw 6 Guilds with new logos -- C series versions, some with a simple script inlay and others with the new muit-colored G-Shield. Everything played great, but it was a little too overwhelming to pick a favorite. They also had a wallfull of the stuff we're familiar with, f-412. f-512, d-40,50,55... you get the picture. Check out the link above, then start thinking about having one of the reunions here!

The map is starting to fill. We may have to break these down into semiannual excursions. :D

Their F40 w/ the pickrash is about the only one listed anywhere among the on-line guitar shops; the same guitar is the only older
F40 returned by GBase search.

hey guildzilla

Although I haven't been in years, the Columbus shows by no means suck! They used to have them twice a year, and they were pretty sizable. For many years next to a couple of the Texas shows, Columbus' show was third in size in the country, but the vintage market has changed a lot since ten years ago. I think it grew so much because Columbus was such a good central point for East, Midwest, and Southern dealers to make it to the show. Here's how big it is.

There was always a wide array new and vintage gear, including drums and keyboards, always a good spread of misc amp and guitar parts, independent luthiers and amp builders, and everyone is always ready to wheel and deal. There are deals to be had, and I usually found multiple of examples of what I was looking for. Every time I had a case in my hand, no one hesitated to ask what was in the case and talk shop--very friendly folks. Also, if you see something you like, and it's still there near the end of the show, the dealers will cut crazy deals to not take them home.

I bought my first Guild, a '63 CE-100 there! I'm jealous 'cuz the Columbus shows were about 20 times the size of the Portland show. I'd be interested to hear if it's still good. If it is, since we still have family there, I'd try to make it back some time for an LTG gathering.

Hope it's still cool.

As you said, JP, not bad at all.

I had a good time. Same venue as in your pic - the Alladin Shrine Temple on the northeast side - and just as packed with guitars and dealers. I put three Guilds in my trunk before I went to see if I could soft-sell them as I walked around.

The '97 D-25 NT I had drew some interest, so I went out to my car and brought it in. I had gotten a crazy BIN deal for it earlier this month, but it failed to knock the '78 D-25M off my keeper list. Anyhow, I had wanted $500 for it but took $450.

Another thing that made it a nice day was that in pitching my Guilds to one guy, he wound up giving me a packet of 1984 and 1988 Guild promotion literature. Very cool dude, very cool stuff. For free.

Altogether, I saw about 40-50 Guild guitars. Reasonable price tags but no great deals, and I have way too much already. Jay Pilzer, the Guild Guy, had a nice table with some attractive items.

Another booth had a DV-52, satin finish, herringbone rosette, with $852 on the price tag. I played that one for awhile. It was nice, but I can't judge sound in that kind of noisy place. Beautiful rosewood on the back, but the finish was deteriorating in an odd way along the top and bottom edges of the lower bout portions of the back.

Seems like every other guitar was a Strat.

Nevertheless, if you want to put it on the map for 2008, Grahmster, the night-before party offer and jam session for LTG'ers would be my pleasure. I have a nice big patio with fireplace and a great backyard with plenty of room indoors if it rains.

Very cool guildzilla! I'm glad it's still a kickin' show. I used to be so excited walking in that I'd get numb and giddy. I'm such a guitar dork. I'd also have to go around a few times, because it's so easy to miss seeing something. At the end of the day I'd also be exhausted from looking at so much gear.

Glad you enjoyed it !
