Hi all,

I have a Starfire V Amber whose serial number checks out to be 1966 via this guild link - http://support.guildguitars.com/downloads/datingyourguild.pdf. I would like to restore it back close to its previous glory, but wanted to see if you had some opinions/advice on how to proceed.

When I got the guitar it had been modified with a stop tailpiece with four holes drilled in the body (two large and two small - see photos). The guitar has a lot of wear and somewhere along the way had a pentagram etched into the finish. The frets have some gaps around the inlay and the binding has a few spots where it it has cracked or shrank. Over the past year or so I have slowly gathered a bunch of the parts via reverb and Ebay including a pick guard, all knobs, and a NOS Guildsby bridge. I am still missing the Guildsby B-7.

Looking for advice/wisdom: Do Starfire V's from this era have holes drilled into the body at the top of the B-7 or were these holes put in just for the stop tailpiece? How should I proceed here? Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Hi Whit -

What a cool and fun project!

If I'm not mistaken, Starfire Vs from this era do not normally have inserts for tailpiece posts in the top. I think the screws went straight into the top, however, I'm certain a member with an example from that era will chime in to confirm this for sure.

Good luck with the restoration!

HI Whit, welcome aboard!
I second Ralf's advice.
Never seen anybody else's work quite like Fixit's, and he's got basically universal 5-star rating from members here who've had their guitars restored or refreshed by him, not only for quality but even for reasonable pricing.
Oh yes, neither of us have any relationship with or financial interest in his shop.
