Hi, I’m new here. I just picked up a 1980 M80 and I’m absolutely loving it. Unfortunately the guitar is missing 1 intonation screw on the bridge. I’ve gone to my local bolt supply and was unable to find a match. Any idea what size these screws are? Thx in advance!

Welcome to LTG!
Ken Nash, who had such parts was out of intonation screws I believe. And Göldo in Germany who made such Müller bridge parts also seem to no longer offer them.
I'd assume those are metric screws as the bridge was made in Germany.

Keep your eye glued to Reverb or eBay, or both, Gibsondependable routinely parts these guitars out, for better or for worse.

Buy a bridge and use it for parts.

One of the reasons I'm staying away from these guitars is I had one with bridge and screw issues I could not rectify without replacing some parts but there are some hacks.

The issue was that side pressure from bending strings and years of general wear and tear largely wiped the threads from a couple of the soft brass roller saddles. The hack was to slip a piece of paper in the thread to take up the gap, not an idea situation at all. You'll find the threads are wiped precisely where the correct string spacing is.

There are new parts kits from Germany - or were - but shipping any small part from Europe now starts at around $40, so economically, it's not an easy decision, and be aware that there were three saddles sizes, although one is bass so huge.

Buy a bridge, use it for parts. You may have some loose threads on the trebles, but the bass saddles probably not.

In this current auction, he's selling all the bridge pieces at one, who knows how high that will go, but it will still be Guild prices.

As you can see in the pics, this style of bridge hangs on slots, and there is another style - later? - although it's the mounting arrangement that different, the saddles and screws should be the same.

Ouch, he even pulled the inserts from the body.

My personal feeling about this always run towards some type of punishment that isn't fit to print.

Hi.
I had the same problem with one of my 80s Guilds. Was able to find a standard metric replacement. Not visually identical, but otherwise a perfect fit. If my memory is correct it was an M2, I will double check when I get back home from Spain.

There were different versions of the bridge, I am not sure if all used the same screws.

Ralf mentioned Göldo who recently were selling new parts for these bridges on eBay and Reverb. Their Reverb shop name is Zoundhouse. No such parts listed at the moment, but maybe they still have some.

I also need to locate some intonation screws for my S-65 3/4 scale that I'm refurbishing.
The 5/8" x 1/72 UNF (thread-fine) screws I found were close but no cigar.

If anyone knows the thread # I'd appreciate it!

Those screws don't work because Mueller is a German company. You want M2 screws, though there are three versions of those bridges and I can't guarantee they're all the same.

M2, confirmed.

I've been measuring the existing screws like a madman and it appears that the required intonation screws are M2-0.25 Pitch X 16mm

But apart from some ridiculously priced titanium screws, I can't find anything with that fine of thread (0.25 pitch)
I'm crying over here!
Anyone have a lead on such fine thread/pitch M2 screws?

I have this set from Amazon that I used for 3D printing projects, and the M2 nut threads perfectly onto one of my intonation screws. According to the chart the thread pitch is 0.4. I can't say for certain that the chart is accurate or that your bridge is the same as mine, though.

Hello

M2 sounded really thin - so I took one screw off my X-2000 Nightbird - it is M3 - then I fetched one regular M3 from my shop and it fits in the bridge. Maybe slight filing of the tip is good to make it go easier unto the hole on opposite side as the saddle piece might be ever so slightly high. Other option is to file a tad from the bottom of the saddle.

Sending few M3 brass or steel screws in an envelope from EU to US costs 4,80€ = roughly 5USD

Doesn’t your Nightbird have a different bridge?

The link presented in post # 2 was gone and there was no other info.

But same goes for other metric-sized screws, too. Shipping some in an envelope is about 5USD - and they cost next to nothing over here.

This was about the tiny Müller bridge intonation screws which Ken Nash had in the past:

Göldo used to sell those saddle pieces in sets of 6 but they discontinued them about a year ago, so except Hans there is no source anymore.

I love this community.... it puts me in mind of my friend who owns a DeLorean. He's regaled me with stories of all his DeLorean owner friends becoming super-geek armchair metallurgists and rare-parts dealers. :ROFLMAO:

Ah yes - I do remember those. Screws are no problem - unless colour - but the rest of it . . .
