Looking for F20 or M20 for my 14 year old daughter. She's really progressed with her playing, and is ready to graduate from her Fender 3/4 sized starter guitar. She loves playing my D4, but she's very small so it's difficult for her to play. The F20/M20 is a great size for her, and being a long-time Guild guy, I wouldn't mind having one around the house...

I've been out of the forum loop for quite some time, so I'm not up on the ins and outs of Guild's current US offerings, other than seeing on the website that they're currently offering the M-20 and an M-20E with a pickup. While I think that's great, I know very little about the quality and playability of the current Guild US offering relative to equivalent offerings from the Westerly, Hoboken, or NY, or more recent US eras. It would be very helpful to hear, from those on the forum, their perspective about the new Guild US F20/M20 vs. historical equivalents. While I don't want to spend a fortune on a vintage F20/M20 for my daughter, I don't want to buy a new one if it's not on par with my experience with US Guilds from other eras.

I've also seen several vintage F20/M20s from various eras on CL/eBay etc, some of which are in the same relative price range as a new one. If any of you have anything like that you'd like to sell, I'd certainly be interested in taking a look.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would recommend you look for a vintage one for her. The current Oxnard-made ones have a wide neck and relatively thick neck. The older models will have a skinny neck that she may find much more comfortable.

An F20 will be much easier to find, and you should be able to find them for less than comparable vintage M-20s (since they don’t have the “Nick Drake” factor.)

Awerking,
This is a wonderful idea. I wish your daughter many hours of happy and comfortable playing on a vintage 20 either model.

Making this old retired teacher (not music) smile. The daughter has a wonderful dad and I am betting same is true reversed.

What price range are you looking at? I've got a '66 F-20 that isn't getting much attention I could be talked out of....
