I was at GC in Buffalo last weekend and wandering around the acoustic room. I played a Taylor 814 which was real nice but the ticket price of $2888 was offside. Outside of the door to the acoustic room sat a '73 D25. It was a bit rough, very, very dry wood, lots of play wear, but it sounded sweet and played real nice. $799, a bit high, IMO considering the condition, but then again it sounded sweet and played real nice.

With original case and paperwork in this condition, I would say that $750 is not out of the question.

In the spirit of the Price is Right, $726.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm posting because last week I actually purchased the D25 in question from the Buffalo Guitar Center. I stumbled into the store and the Guild caught my eye (and ear) and I couldn't pass it up. The inside label reads that the guitar is a D25 Cherry with serial number 06524. I was hoping that someone could help me out with accurately dating the guitar. I know that above it was mentioned that it was made in 1973, but I believe this to be inaccurate, as it was made at Guild's Hoboken, NJ facility. In doing some research, I see that Guild left this facility in 1966 to move to the Westerly, RI plant. If anyone could shine some light on the actual age of my new guitar, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Welcome.

I'm going from memory but the move to Westerly was actually not complete until the early 1970's and there was a period when guitars were being made in both Hoboken and Westerly. By 1973 I think things had settled down and everything was at Westerly so I would believe a 1973 date with a Westerly label.

Hans Moust should be along to verify or correct my recollection.

In fact, thanks to the miracle of "search inside this book" I see that
Hans said:
It would take until 1969 before the whole operation was transferred from Hoboken to Westerly.
and
Hans said:
Guild had completely moved from the premises in Hoboken by January 1, 1972.

Thank you very much for the info... just to clarify, the D25 in question has a Hoboken, NJ label with serial number 06524. The date of manufacture is however unknown.

I've always wanted a green D25.

Or a green anything, really, but they nailed that ugly, bright, translucent green on the D25. God, I love it so much!
