Looking for a new case for a 1970 F212

I need to purchase a new case for my 1970 F212. I have the original case but it has a nasty slightly pukey aroma that I can't get rid of. (tried various things, baking soda, adding scents nothing works) Can anyone advise me of a case size that would be a good fit for a 1970 F212? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

That's a bummer, Norrissey. I'll just ask... Have you tried leaving it out in the sun for a few days?

Anyway, sorry, I don't know what to suggest for case size. As far as manufacturer's, CMG's HumiCase products look pretty nice to me, though I haven't tried any. The TKL cases that Guild used to use are also really nice (IMO). Anyway, best wishes.

Thanks @chazmo! I guess I need to get more scientific about this and carefully measure the guitar but I suspect it is a pretty rare size, not a dread, not an orchestra size. Most likely I'll have to go to Guitar Center and just try out some cases.
(have tried leaving the case out in the sun for a couple of days - perhaps I'll leave it out for a couple more!)

Hey, no, might as well find a new case, Norrissey. I've had a similar situation, but just a smoky smell in an old case. I ended up getting a new case.

Thanks Eric! Just did a test. It does not fit into my D25BR case (tuning machines are too wide and it's a smidge too long) but it fits very nicely into the case of my 2018 D40 Traditional. Gonna keep an eye out for a used but newish Guild dread case : )

That's what I was going to suggest. My Orpheum OM won't fit in any OM sized case, but fits nicely in a dread case, and its body size is similar to a F212.

When I needed a new case for my F-112 I was pleasantly surprised to find a Guild alligator case with enough thick memory foam that it makes a good snug and secure fit. Snazzy looking, too! I'll bet Guild could set you up with a case you'll like and find very functional.

I do find that white vinegar kills any scent but kerosene and cat pee. Puke shouldn't be a problem.

But if that doesn't work, TKL cases, which come in several plywood, plastic, and soft styles, are widely touted for good reasons. They're made well, cost a lot less than booteek cases, e.g. Calton and Hiscox, and don't have the trans-Pacific carbon footprint or ignore North American labor or environmental standards.

They'll be glad to tell you which cases will fit your guitar.

Also, Guild has its own line of excellent cases. Brand match appeals to lots of players. Nothing wrong with that.

Bad plan. Just measure. Every case sold online tells you their dimensions, and using Guitar Center for anything just encourages them.

All you have to do is call or email TKL or Guild. They'll help you find the right case. And you can hang Guitar Center out to dry.

It was based on the F47, 16" lower bout F-body. Headstock length might be tricky in a non-Guild case. 1970 price list shows same case(s) for F47 and F212:

TKL should be able to tell you what their current equal is to the 4516-D. Note prices have probably gone up in the interim.
