Any Mesa love?

Admittedly, I haven't tried any of the newer models from the last 10 years, but this was my favorite series of the ones I tried -- the dual calibers. Before he became famous for his amps, Chris Benson worked as a repair tech in my favorite vintage store in town. We once had a nice discussion about how much we loved the DC-5. It has a luscious clean channel, a wide array of sculptable overdrive tones, while still being able to transform to a rip-your-head-off rock monster. Running dual 6L6s in the power section.

I've had both head and combo versions, and I miss them both.

And the little brother DC-3, running EL84s.

One clean Vox V3! I have 3 of the Vox V3’s They sound even better (IMHO) with Weber Bluebell or Silverbell speakers. I have piles of the Bulldog speakers that I have given away, when ever someone needs a speaker to find out what they have. Peace and Maximum Respect

Not with me anymore, but I thought I'd post a pic.

Also from the same family and also no longer with me -- a very rare Epiphone Mighty Mite EA-22RVT. There was no Gibson equivalent for this little EL-34 beast. I really should have kept this one. Sorry for the crappy photos.

I always lusted after a GA79-RVT. Very nice!
Me too, thanks. I listed it on eBay for 2500 no bites but lots of low ballers some acting as women? Then after the listing closed my phone rang (back then you could put your # in the listing) A new guy called me from the mid-west and asked if I still wanted to sell it. He told me he had over 50 of these. Some new in the box with their matching Gibson 355<EDIT stereo guitars (as they were made for each other) He sent me an email a month or 2 after with kind words. There are people like that still out there. I think some of them are on this forum. It’s all good stuff. Peace and Maximum Respect ~ LMW

From around 1940. From the familiar Chicago address of Dobro/National/Valco and the slew of brand name instruments and department store chains they made amps for. This particular model, Sold direct from the Webster Amp Co by catelog that went out to small businesses and organizations. It originally came with a microphone and matching suitcase phonograph and was mainly sold to schools, churches, dance schools, etc. It is pretty much the same amp schematically and tube layout wise as the early National Dobro model 1212...and (almost) physically identical to the National model 75 cabinet wise, and also the schematic predecessor to the early Valco Supro Supreme.

I stole this from an estate auction for $70 around 10 years ago. Now I wish I has also had purchased the matching mic and record player (why they were in a separate auction lot is beyond me...but at the time I was really only interested in the amp. The 12" Jensen field coil speaker is in excellent condition and it sounds really great. Still has the original 2 prong plug and I keep a small fire extinguisher in my music room just in case. Lol

Here's a random early 40's National 75 model for comparison. Only difference is the back of the cab is slanted at the top w/ the chassis loaded at an angle at the top.

Beautiful Valco amp! I waited too long to snag one, prices are ridiculous now.

Potential post title 1: The face of addiction
Potential post title 2: I kinda had a weekend

The tuxedo Bassman came back home from my best friend's place. It was on loan. He was going to borrow my Ampeg SB-12, but ended up buying a 64' Pro (non reverb) so I basically hauled the SB-12 for nothing. Another great friend offered me two amps (the Maestro and the drip edge Bassman) for the Pro Reverb (with a little dough from me to him) so I said yes. And that had an extension cab with a grey frame JBL d120f. And I brought a Peavey 130 special from him to another friend who lives in Cinci.

Ruby is not impressed. Now to unload a Maestro, Bassman, and Vibro Champ. HAHAHAHAHA

Here's my 1956 Fender Champ. (Or at least the cabinet!) I bought this from a consignment shop for $300 as it was in pretty worn condition cosmetically, but it is in all original perfect working order!

100% because of my Guild T100d and it's deep rich hollowbody rumblings, I feared it was just too much for the little original 6" speaker and decided to have a cabinet custom made to house the 5f1 chassis which came with both an 8" and 10" speaker baffle.....and I went w/ a 10" Jensen in the lowest wattage I could find (iirc 25 watt). Added a repro Fender name plate, and a grounded 3 prong plug, and have been delighted. (Only wish the guy that made the cab got the direction of the twill right, but I really can't complain. It's not like I'm trying to fool anyone) AND, now I am considering having yet another cab made for a 12" speaker as the Guild is asking for even more...umph!! :D

I've owned lots of amps over the last 30+ years...Marshalls, Mesas, Roland, and a few other Fenders.....THIS little sucker is by far my fav of the bunch. Between 8-12 in volume it just has the most gorgeous natural breakup. Add my voodoolabs microvibe and Roland RE-201 tape delay in front of it and it's pure vintage ear candy.

All I’m after is clean tones, and these Fender Red Knob amps from the late ‘80s & early ‘90s have become my favorites. Super 210 & Super 60 are 6L6 tube amps. Deluxe 85, Studio 85, & Princeton Chorus are SS. All of these were made in Lake Oswego, Oregon (some were also manufactured in Corona, Calif).

Univox 45b mid 60s tube amp with an extra oval shaped speaker added to the side (don't think it is anything original).
Sounds and works great with my 2000 X170 I got from Richard P. Purchased from my cousin who bought it new somewhere near Lansing Michigan when there working in auto industry in 50s, 60s, and 70s.

I built a clone of that amp and it’s also one of my favorites. Here’s an old thread about it with pics:

These days all my vintage amps are Guilds.
