The Fuzz Factory is a lotta fun, especially after you accept it has a mind of its own and expects you to adapt to it rather than the other way 'round.

😅 Very true, Dave! you never know where it takes you as soon as you reduce "stab"
That's a nice paint job on yours! Is that hand painted or a special edition?

I got my Fuzz Factory at Elderly Instruments late in 1999. I was there to pick up something else…I think a Magnatone Stereo 280 amp. The hand painting was just part of how they were made at the time, I guess.

Wow! Those big beasts cover a lot of sonic turf, krysh! Is the gray box a homemade midi switching box?

For small venues. With the ”Quilter” on the board I can grab and go with a small 1x12 and a guitar.

I'm a bassist... mainly a 7 string tuned like a guitar with a low B and an octave lower... but also guitar. This is my current dual purpose board... but I'm looking to add a Dawner Prince Pulse soon

Were you on the waiting list for the King of Tone, or did you grab one used?

it is my second one new from Mike. First one was in 2007 after about 18 months wait. As soon as I got the first one I put my name in again... once at the top, you are at the top. So when I was ready to replace the one I sold to float some bills... it was just a few weeks of riding the current build queue to get it. I put my name in again when I got this one... just in case :)

I tend to keep things really simple and after going through a few decades of trying various brands and configurations in a "Tone Quest" I found that I liked natural tube amp distortion the best, but use an overdrive pedal for a little grit, when needed. A touch of delay for clean rhythm guitar and a wah-wah pedal to use, on occasion. A tremolo pedal for non-trem amps and for when I want the trem slower than what a Fender Deluxe Reverb gives you.

I started experimenting with JOYO brand pedals around 2012, once I had seen a fellow from Germany demonstrating them on YouTube. They tend to be of a standard size, with inputs, outputs and 9v power jacks all in the same position on each model. So, it makes for a neat, compact board. This one I keep on the lowest shelf of my recording desk. In front of it on the floor is a Morley wah pedal and channel switch pedal.

The first device the signal goes into is a homemade box with a rotary switch and a variety of capacitor values, which I think is probably similar to the Gibson Varitone rotary switches they put on some guitar models. It then goes up into a rack mounted KORG tuner and back to the yellow trem pedal and out the chorus pedal, where it can either go up to a rack mounted tube preamp and tube power amp or the signal can go to an amp of choice.

Current version on my dual purpose board. boost, dirt, and fuzz in the blender loop with a bit of clean mixed back in to retain the low end. Still looking to add a Dawner Prince Pulse pedal to it... need to fit that into my play money budget soon.

This is my current iteration.

I plan to replace the Full-Drive 3 with an Old Blood Noise Fault V2 or a Benson Preamp. I'll probably also swap both the Polara Reverb and the Matthews Astronomer for a Source Audio Ventris. I love SA pedals.

When cash allows, my next addition will be a ZVEX Double Rock and some kind of fuzz. I recently tried an Ibanez 850 mini-fuzz I really dug.

Here's one for the true pedal geeks. I got to chat with Emily Hopkins today at a gear event here in Mpls today. Dang, I forgot to get a shot of her pedal board!

She has a YouTube pedal channel you can check out here:

Lugging my large acoustic pedalboard to weekly open mics was getting to be too much of a hassle, so I decided that I'd put a "fly rig" together with just a solid pre amp, a tuner, and a harmony pedal ( I use the harmony pedal with a majority of the songs I play).
Fortunately, I had a Red Eye Twin from an old board, and another TC Harmony Singer from same (... a pedal I like for its simplicity of settings as well as its sound). I did pick up a Peterson mini strobe tuner (I have the large Strobo-stomp on the big board).

Footprint of the board is only 12" x 8", and, for transport, it fits in one of those small Pelican knockoff cases that can be had cheaply at Harbor Frieght.
The Red-Eye Twin pre-amp will accomodate any of my acoustics as they are each fitted with passive K&K powermix-pure systems. The Red-Eye Twin can be comfigured so the TRS signal carrying each of the pickup sources can be blended and separately EQ'd by the gain & treble controls available for each channel on the Red-Eye Twin (note the stereo splitter cable I'm using to feed the guitar signals into the A & B channels on the pre-amp}.

I'm running the whole thing off one of those little Rockboard LT-XL rechargeable power-packs, so there is no need to plug in. One 9v output off the power-pack supplies the pre amp and the second is daisy chained to the tuner and the harmomy pedal. The Rockboard is amazing in terms of its output and how long it will run. Oftentimes I'll practice with it all week and do a gig or two only to see it is still at half-charge.

My guitar signal comes out of an XLR out on the Red-Eye; and when I play out, instead of using an XLR cable, I've been using a 'X-Vive' wireless XLR transmitter set to line. That way, I can just hand the receiver to whoever is running sound and have him plug it into the house board. I use the house mic cable to run from my Harmony pedal.

Both the tuner and the TC Harmony singer come off the effects-out jack of the Red-Eye Twin so they can receive a clean guitar signal for tuning as well as triggering the harmony algorithm via true bypass. Since I'm not running the effects loop back into the effects-in jack, the guitar signal coming from the XLR out is totally unaffected by any interference the harmonizer might add. Guitar & mic signals are going to sepaprate intakes on the house board. I'm very pleased with the sound quality I get with an amplified acoustic signal through the Red-Eye. The folks at fire-eye have kept live pre-amplification simple, and thought out the needs of the gigging musician very well. Besides that, they are always available by phone to answer any questions.
