For years I wanted a Mosrite Ventures model guitar. The shape always fascinated me ever since I seen Fred Sonic Smith wielding one but to my surprise when I saved up the cash one summer to buy a sunburst 67’ Ventures I soon discovered hated those small frets they always had and I didn’t want to be THAT GUY who ditched the original frets to something larger and better suited for me so I passed and ended up buying a nice amp. Recently I discovered the Yahoo Japan auctions and knew surely with the wild success of The Ventures in Japan there’d be countless copies of their respective Mosrite’s. So after scoping out the site I left a bid on a Morales copy and ended up winning it. Took a while for it to show up as shipping overseas is delayed and suspended but I finally got it and put on a nice set of 11’s on it and I gotta say it’s nicer than I would expect. I always associate Zenon with the cheap crappy Sears guitars as my friend in middle school had a Zenon Bass guitar from the same era (late 60’s) that was a real pile of crap. Instead of using basswood like real Mosrites they used a 2 piece pancake mahogany body. Pickups are fairly hot with the neck reading at 9.79k and the bridge clocking in at just south of 15k! Very hot pickups and the neck pickup is quite microphonic. The neck is laminated (didn’t bother me as I had a Framus Texan that had a neck like this and it stayed straight and never needed an adjustment!) and had a nice D profile, a tad thicker than the Mosrite I played in the shop years ago and the frets seem a bit larger. So far I replaced the tuners and put some Grolsh washers on the strap buttons (no strap locks come close to beating the simple rubber Grolsh washer!)

That's cool! Looks like a pretty faithful reproduction of Mosrite bridge, tailpiece and nut, too.
