King tides

I hope our coastal members aren’t getting too hammered with flooding from the king tides. My friends in the San Francisco Bay Area are reporting some serious (record) flooding in Marin county. @twocorgis are you seeing this on Long Island? @The Guilds of Grot are you seeing any down the Joisey coast?
Nothing abnormal here on the North Shore of Long Island, but one of the nice things about the North Shore is that you gain elevation rapidly in almost all of it (save a few places) once you come off the Long Island Sound. My house is less than 1/8 of a mile from the Sound and the Nissequogue River, but I'm already just shy of 100 feet of elevation. It's one of the main reasons I've always been a North Shore boy.

At the Oregon coast, we always need to pay attention to the king tides and sneaker waves. There have been especially large numbers of sneaker waves this year, and there are always people that get caught. Check out this vid post showing just how sneaky they can be!

I would have felt perfectly safe behind that rock wall. 😨 Yikes!

Spent 4 years at the Coast Guard air station in North Bend. The sign probably say "watch out for waves"!

This is the street that leads to my favorite local Jeep Beach, Freeman Park, Carolina Beach NC. It's between the ocean and the bay. It gets wet at most high tides and feet deep with king tides. Thank God for the car washes with the undercarriage nozzles.

Is the kid and the dog okay?

Edit: Okay, saw them in the grass, they're fine. Whew!

My brother is in Mill Valley, CA and said he was OK but north of him they were getting a couple of feet of water in some shops.

After having 2 of our rental houses flood last year, I can sympathize.

Yeah, it’s pretty awful. I think it’s subsiding now. I was trying to figure out if Tamalpais HS was shut down at all, but I didn’t see anytyhing in the news. I wonder how they were handling bussing during the flooding.

I have friends in Mill Valley and they were telling me it was a pretty darn big mess.

We moved to the north Oregon coast in 1984. We’ll get a good dose of storms passing through every winter, and what never ceases to amaze me is how huge tree trunks can be tossed around like toothpicks by ocean waves. So as we speak, another atmospheric river is funneling through & it’s expected to continue into tomorrow - a good day to stay inside & tweak a few guitars!
