So, in case not anyone from the LTG already has planned to take this beauty home, I just
thought that I´d perhaps had found my all-mahogany twelvie-dreadnought, when I remember
that our expert Hans Moust earlier said that the D-15-12 ´s are the only all-mahogany dreadnought twelvestrings
in serial production made by Guild....and when I look at the grain of the top-wood, I sure looks like spruce, right?

No exceptions where made by Guild regarding the dreadnought twelvestring 212 M´s? all 212 M´s are
just mahogany-stained spruce-tops?

take a look:

It certalinly LOOKS like mahogany, but . . .

Looking closely at the dark stained top, and the grain, I'd say spruce. There is a bit of bear-claw present. Hog doesn't have a grain like that.

Then again, if you close your eyes, and play the thing, what do your ears tell you. Oh, that's right, you don't have it yet so you CAN'T play it. Sorry.

Alright, then, hog would sound warmer, and spruce would be a bit brighter. It all boils down to what kind of sound you are looking for.

Knowing what wood lies there would help make a choice. And make a difference in the final price. Hog would be less; spruce would be a bit more.

yes, Steffan, that definitely makes sense, consequently I love the shimmering melancholy of the sound of my `82 sixstring cherry D-25 with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides....but....if you´ve ever heard the dark, monumental and shimmering sound of a mahogany-topped dreadnought twelvestring....then you´ll be hunting for a good specimen of such guitar til you find it....

Hi Jens, Happy New Year, Please forward a copy of your last letter to Guild. Sounds like a vacuum waiting to be filled, to me. What could be better than filling it with the sound of a Hog 12 from Guild, I'm with you. Maybe a little mahogany F112..........s w e e t ! :D Steffan

hey Metalman....really a paradox that spruce is more expensive....when it really seems that it is harder to find all-mahogny Guilds and it also seems that most Guild-connoiseurs are hunting for all-hog specimen...regardless of model...sixstrings or twelvestrings...

and, Happy new year Steffan...I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need an all-hog twelvie in the Guild-line....I will post a mail to them...any suggestion of a good contact-person to send to?

Anyone?????? If we have 1700 members, and we all send them a letter expressing our interest, well maybe,,,,that would get their attention, Especially, as we can't shut up about what great instruments these are. Good time to close the door on Ms, Ts, and Gibbs. I seriously would love to see a F112 in hog.. I have both F112-72, and an F 512 from 80. I think a hog 112 would scare them both. Steffan

Looks a lot like my spruce top D-25M.

I'm wincing in pain when I look at the photos of how that guitar was (not) taken care of :(

There was a D25 12 built, not sure if there were any with hog tops though. It was virtually the same guitar as this one. That looks like a stained spruce top to me Grammy. Looks just like my D25.

Well, if you MUST have an all-hog topped 12-string, then I recommend the Martin J12-15. Goes for around a grand, or less, and it is a really nice sounding 12-string. I have played them, and like them a lot.

That is the only model out there in a decent price range. Like I said, around $1,000 or less.

Maybe if all 1700 members made a commitment to buy one of these F-112Ms if Guild were to make them, then yes, we would get their attention.

(And not a GAD model, either; we want the real thing . . .)

Seems money speaks to them more than just fan based interest.

Happy New Year everyone!

Yes, my 2c is that it is a spruce top stained mahogany- they made a lot of d-25 guitars with this stain.

I do not know of any mahogany top Guild 12 string........

At the last Dallas Guitar Show, I met someone with a F-112 that had a mahogany top...the original spruce top had been smashed, apparently, and the previous owner had had a mahogany top installed...

Ever since, I've been looking for a broken F-212XL to put a 'hog top on...tuned 2 whole steps down (to "C") and strung with heavier strings, that F-112 had a delightful "growl"! 8)

Hello Pikemusic,

Happy New Year! Actually I said that the D-15-12 and the D-17-12 were the only all-mahogany 12-strings that Guild had done.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Terry, I just watched an auction of an F112 go off without a hitch except the seller didn't mention the guitar had been refinished! I wouldn't be surprised if the buyer ships it back, although the lack of a pickguard was a clue.

Anyway, I'll have to keep an eye out for an F212XL for ya'. Someone with a girlfriend who has done an El Kabong is always a possibility after the holidays. ;)

Sorry, Hans.....I simply forgot to mention the D-17-12 deluxe version of the D-15-12....it was just because the discussion was regarding if there were any odd specimen of the D-212 made with mahogany-top or not regarding the D-212 I saw on ebay...and I spoke as if the D-15 was kind of a "ground-model" for the 80´s all-mahogany Guilds....though I really should have mentioned the D-17-12 also, since I quoted you on that....-I apologize again.......otherwise Hans...it is really hard or near to impossible to find a D-15-12.....(I think the satin top of the D-15-12 will sound better than the gloss D-17-12).....but I´ll have to keep on looking....please shout if you see one......
