Hello,

I bought a Jumbo Junior (mahogany) as I was looking for something which I could sit out in the back yard with and mess about on.

Has anyone else had a MIC Guild and had concerns about the quality of the finish? For the size of the guitar, it really does sound great (I’m also wondering how different the maple version would sound) but I have slight concerns with a bit of the top which looks like it wasn’t sand down properly, and the top of the headstock as you would look down on the guitar in a stand, where it looks like varnish has bubbled. This passed quality control.

Something which has also puzzled me is that these don’t seem to have serial numbers associated with them - is this normal?

I appreciate it is just a cheap guitar and maybe I’m being too fussy... with it being so similar to the OM240 I wonder what the quality of the OM would be in comparison?

Read through this thread. Keeping in mind that the thread discusses other MIC Guilds besides the Westerly Collection, I think it suggests you look inside the soundhole at the neck block for a serial number. Maybe there isn't one but I would check there first.

As for quality control there are reports of instruments that perhaps should not have been allowed out of the factory. But there are also reports that CMGs response was to have dealers do an inspection before shipping. So if you have questions I would ask the selling dealer. Maybe they will make a swap or give a partial refund. In general CMG does seem to want to stand behind all of their product so you might just ask.

Hello Ontario... I have owned my Guild JJ for about 3 years and my serial # is on a paper sticker on the neck block. However, there is another number on the neck block, very lightly - not 'stamped' I don't think, although it has that look...a completely different number than on the paper sticker though.

I've have the strings off mine, as the bridge was beginning to lift from the back, preparing to heat the old one off and re-glue it.
Had a good look around inside, inspecting for loose or damaged bridge plate, or loose braces. Everything seems okay, though I been humidifying the inside for a few weeks.

Though honestly, it may be as much my fault as it is bad workmanship...I really neglected humidifying this guitar in the winter months.

You are correct, this below picture is from a 2018 made Jumbo Junior Bass, the serial number is on the neck block:

Yes, they have a second number (like this 2017 one below upside down) and I believe this is an internal running factory number and has nothing to do with the serial number. Actually if you look carefully onto the first picture you see that number on the first picture as well starting with 81!

Thanks, I’ve now found it! There’s two as describe in Ralf’s post.
Please see attached files for cosmetics I feel should have been picked up.

The pic of the Top looks like it's in the grain call it silking a fat silking . Unless you can feel something no big deal .
The other stuff not overly a big deal the gas the neck could be easy touched by your if you wanted a bit hard on the other spots.
If you just got and it's under warranty take it back for a replacement or discount.
Thing is once you see the imperfections it's not always easy to forget so if it bugs best exchange it . Lol

I'm a little surprised because if it's coming out of the Grand Reward factory in China, that is one of the best.

If you're still within the return policy, I'd return it and get another one, which should be flawless. If you're outside the return policy, well, like you say, it really does sound great; you didn't spend a bundle on it; it's mainly a "backyard/campfire/travel" guitar; so some small cosmetic flaws aren't that big a deal; and the main thing is, "it really does sound great"! I've always liked the looks of those -- great looking little guitar!

It just came with free mojo built in ! Lol

Coug there are a fair number of blemished Guild MIC guitars that we don't know about . My first OM120 was remember ? I'm not sure if they leave it up the dealer or if Cordoba/Guild has a central check point .

I know Eastman does . I'd have to bet that even though they try and catch most things that there is times when they just didn't look that close or was in a hurry or got distracted by a co-worker asking a dumb question .

If it made it to a dealer I'd say if they seen it they just let go out looking the other way depending on how reputable they are thinking that if the customer doesn't say anything perk ! we don't have to send it back or do more paperwork or discount it .

In this case I'd fight hard for a discount ! Lol
