Aluminum would be a great material also, Bakelite, Ebony and Ivory, and what about Silver and Gold, has anyone tried those for tone?

Sorry, Frono: I did miss that post (my bad). My mental acuity isn't increasing as I age.

I was mildly upset but then I saw where it was and realized my expectation that you had read it was not reasonable so all if good. Now if I had posted it in this tread.... :)

They are excellent bridges but I will say the maker of them stated they were made to Hagstrom bridge specs.
For my NS bridge, I had to file the depth of the crotch/split in them so the "feet" of the bridges could reach to stand on my bridge face plate on my 2013/14 NS Starfire. So looks like the NS paddles in '13/'14, were taller than the Hagstrom paddles he made them for. Width of the split was fine.
Since Cordoba took over production of Guild, and they claim their basses have slightly different dimensions than when Fender made them, then you may or may not need to file the split in them to reach far enough.

Hi Frono, from what you and Mellowgerman have posted I have decided to leave the bridge in place now and not remove it and explore further (maybe another day). Thanks to the above the bridge plate is now horizontal and I managed to get a guy to 3D print me a saddle earlier. It's not perfect and will require a little filing in places and it's not rosewood but it gets the bass usable in the short term while I continue adjusting and fine tuning. Thanks again :)

Black plastic saddles. If you have looked at enough pictures you can tell the difference between black plastic and wooden. If you agree with me then here is an example. If you feel like discussing then fine, but my only point is to confirm @mellowgerman 's recollection that the earliest saddles were plastic.

Speaking of plastic saddles - the early Gibson 2-point bridges (AKA Evertilt™ Bridge) had plastic saddles - here's my example, my Les Paul Triumph that I acquired at the Golden Gate Bridge over 10 years ago:

This is one of my favorite basses that I have been fortunate enough to own - I believe it's a '71, about the same time as my fretless AleM-85 (both are less than a year younger than me). I just love it, and know from this that plastic saddles aren't necessarily a bad thing. (I won't defile the Guild forum with a full pic of a Gibson bass - unless you want me to of course)

Axe and you shall receive...

That's the Glamour Shotz™ version, here's some simple video/audio:

For the past 10 years or so it's worn the same LaBella flats as heard in the video, but a few days ago I put on some GHS Precision Flats - ironic perhaps, but so far so good!

That is one very classy looking bass, always had a soft space for the Triumph/Studio vibe. Loving your tone, thanks for sharing

Thanks, I've got a soft spot for these too! I never dreamed I would own a Les Paul with the diamond inlay on the headstock - those are generally only on the deluxe ones, and this was a deluxe bass when it came out. But it also looks kind of like a spaceship with the crazy control panel! I can't believe I was almost ready to sell it a few months ago - glad I played it first, I realized that this is a keeper!

Awesome. Drummer?

Drums are by my buddy Patrick Robinson - wish he lived near me! Though with the pandemic we probably couldn't do much playing anyway. It's basically my band Stanley Lighthead - we manage to get together every few years and play. I actually used my AleM-85 quite a bit with the band.

Beautiful bass, sounds fantastic, love the funk!

Thanks RVBASS! I should point out, the bass was recorded direct, it's also going through a CAE V-Comp tube compressor and Alembic F-2B preamp.

This weekend I'm going to try and take some pictures showing the Les Paul and my (Ale)M-85 II, to show the similarities and differences - I'll start a new thread - apologies for the divergence!
