... finally got some really good kids with him.... I love this guy!!

There are those two girls from 'Reina del Cid' they are called (I think the drummer too plays regularly with them) who are there with Josh Turner...They have lots of videos on the net (they are skilled and with a good taste) that you may want to look at if you didn't know them yet...

The Doobie Brothers are probably my favorite group of all time, @West R Lee ! I know it's a wild veer in Tom's thread, but what was the story behind this gathering? You lucky guy!
I'm sorry Charlie, I've just seen this. The story?

Well, about 5 years prior to this night pictured, I had 2 very good seats for the Doobies in Shreveport. Assuming when I bought them that Mrs. West would go, when I mentioned it to her, she was VERY luke warm to the idea.....I think she shrugged her shoulders and told me she wasn't a fan, though they've been my favorite ever since Toulouse Street came out in what......about '72-'73?

So next up was my youngest son, who loved the Doobies, and besides, it was his birthday the night of the concert. So I called and he said, "Gee thanks Dad, but my fraternity is having a birthday party that night for me".

Next up.........my buddy George. George (bald guy with the white beard in the picture)......was best man at my wedding, and if there is a bigger Doobie fan in this world than me (there's not), it's George. So I called ol' George and told him I couldn't give the 2nd ticket away.......15th row, right up front. George said, "tell you what, if you're going to be good enough to spring for the ticket, I'll take you to dinner". That night, we had a few drinks, were feeling no pain, and we ended up standing about 5 feet in front of Tommy Johnston. Tom actually handed me a gold Dunlop guitar pick that night.

Fast forward to about 5 years later. George was working for The University of Texas in Tyler and the college decided to do a concert series. Well you'd have to know George........everybody loves George.....maybe the funniest man I've ever met........right up there with Graham from LTG. In fact, the two of them met over here one night and it was non stop. Anyway, women love George for his humor, and it just so happed that George worked in the same building as the woman at the college who was coordinating the concert series. She went to George and asked who might be some good bands to book at the Cowen Center (the venue), telling George she wanted to appeal to folks our age? First rattle out of the bag, George said "The Doobie Brothers". That kind lady gave George a pair of tickets and a back stage pass for two. Well, along about that time George remembered my treating him to what ended up being front row in Shreveport. 😊 The rest is history. George also suggested "America", and they played there as well. Later they had "Earth, Wind and Fire", then "Chicago".

Sorry for the veer Thomas, but it gave me a reason to go back and watch the videos of the kids again.

So, Jim, the picture was taken backstage at the Cowen Center? That is really awesome!

All by himself.... I think he does just fine...

Here is a great lesson for anyone interested. The essential part is to play it in open G (or a half step down in F#).

That was probably the best clip of BlackWater I've heard. We played that back in the 70s with a couple girls singing some
of the verses too but that was fantastic, Thanks for sharing!
