Anyone else been watching Jorma live on Saturday nights on YouTube? Tonight was the 6th, over an hour and a half, and ended with This Land Is My Land. Great tunes and fingerpicking. And across all the series there was only one repeat, Water Song. No complaints here.

One of the many things I forget to do....

There are some interesting clips on Facebook of Jack Casady playing along that I have managed to catch.

All of the previous Saturdays are available on YouTube. Although he plays his Signature Martins, on many tunes he plays his original J50. An L5 and Fender electric too.

They have all been terrific, and excellent productions with multi cams, and pro sound. And the stories are just as good as the playing. That sunburst Flammang that he plays is just incredible, and he tells the story behind it in the first episode. I want one!

All available here, and well worth your time. Props to Jorma and crew for what has become one of the highlights of my week!

I remember hearing Kottke's version of Embryonic Journey once and I listened to it over and over again, as it was some of the coolest sounding guitar progressions I had ever heard. It blew my mind. then I realize years later that Kottke did not write the song, but Jorma did. Amazing...

I caught one of them live, last week I think. Checked out a few others on the youtube. Can never go wrong with live Jorma. Cheers to him for doing these!

Embryonic Journey - one of my favorite pieces of all time. Many moons ago I played a version on keys, then a few years ago I had to learn it on guitar when I saw how Jorma did it. Took about 6 months, but I got to a passable version, I think. Then I heard Leo's version. OMG. Love the rhythm and bass added, and Leo's playing, whew. Both are just too, too good. Classics!

And thanks for the tip on the Quarantine Concerts! Fabulous!

yeah, and i think this is one of those rare times where the cover version is better. Kottke is just always on another level of playing.

His fingerpicking on the intro of that piece is just incredible. That's got to be two tracks mixed together, doesn't it?

well its a 12 string and an electric guitar. so has to be 2 guitars.

No kidding. I've done a couple versions of the piece on 12-string, I'd say on "level 1" comparatively. On this one, I tried "a version of" the Kottke intro, then dropped in some keys near the end when I ran the guitar through a flanger. Nothing like the pros, of course, but... different at least. 🙃

Good one! More of the Kottke influence in there. I love that short bass part in between the main theme hammer-ons. Instead of just hitting bass G (if you're in G), you hit a quick D, E, then G. Like in Kottke's version. I love that! You got it, Woody!
