good to have Al back to fill in all the gaps. Ralf and Hans cannot do it all...

I have a JF30. Has some of the nicest sides and back I’ve seen.

You should love it. I love my 93 JF 30 natural. Stays in tune more than any other guitar I have and it's easy to fingerpick and sounds great strummed

Last number in '90 is 1099, it's a '90 . At the time Guild only called it "Sunburst", see the label. The bursts in the mid-late '90's tended to show more red at the edges, very close to a "Cherry Sunburst" which was actually used at times. I like those lighter-edged bursts myself.

Stamps were normally on the treble side bevel on the neckblock, hard to see unless you know you're looking for it.
"SB" on label just means "Sun(B)urst", that's what they called it.

Also be aware that I think I've seen more s/n chart errors/omissions in that particular era, '87-'93, on that particular series (JF30's and JF30-12's), than any other period/model, not sure why. Suspect it my have something to do with the sale to US Music Corp and paperwork disarray.

JF30's like F50's have 17" lower bout and at times were the only 17" maple archback F-body in the catalog according to price lists of the era ('87-'93).
That’s awesome info thank you.

Yep, that’s why I said it was either 89 or 90. The online charts will get you in the ballpark but are not always 100% accurate, especially for numbers near the beginning or end of a listed year. Only Hans has the source of truth on actual build completion dates. Still an absolute beauty regardless of what year it was made!

Some JF30s appear (like Jared's photos above) to have high flame with very little counter grain, others (mine is one) are more like the 'topographic map' style Jeff illustrates above, mine has topographic style sides, with a medium flame back and neck. What happened there - did Guild maybe run out of JF30 quality bodies and use an occasional full bling one destined for say an F-412 blonde, but with JF style minimal decoration? Or was the process of picking the bodies just random?
