Google makes note of Iz's 61st birthday today. I actually thought he was younger than I am, but I got that wrong.

Anyway, happy birthday, Iz, and RIP. Your voice (and your uke) are missed.

I remember the first time I heard that song. Tears were flowing.

Yeah, someone was posting recently about the difference between an impressive performance vs a touching/emotional performance... Iz's recordings at least are both, honestly. To me, anyway.

Our father-daughter dance at my daughter's wedding was to Iz's version of "Over the Rainbow". His early work with Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau (the band he formed with his late brother, Skippy) is really nice.

This song of his gets me every time I hear it:

gj, that's wild... My friend's kids did the same thing at their wedding a few years ago. I think it was mother-son, but it brought everyone to tears! Great choice.

The song choice neatly dovetailed my daughter's love of all things Wizard of Oz, my love of Bruddah Iz, and our family's love of Hawai'i. I would pack all of my Iz CD's and our family vacation drives around Maui, O'ahu, and Hawai'i were accompanied by Iz as the soundtrack.

On the other side of happy tears are one mixed with sadness... A good friend of ours passed away after a long battle with cancer. At her daughter's wedding shortly after, a tribute video was made by the bride and her sister to her mother with that song playing in the background. Scenes of the girls with their mother as they were growing up. Even now as I type this I have to stop to wipe away tears...

Thanks chaz, there were a lot of good memories in that video and emotional song.
