After almost 19 years, it's back. Now I have to replace all of the electronics.

A '68, bought off of eBay for next to nothing because it was listed not by model number but by serial number, with no picture. And I know Guild serial numbers in the period I'm interested in. Nothing worked and it needed a refin. Then I got a call from Fender wanting to borrow one to base their reissue off of. They refinned it, but it took an AWFUL LONG time to get it back.

Who is going to do the rest of the work?

For a brief moment I was expecting the Lesh Bass since I thought it was also getting some care.

It's getting a new top.

David Neely will do the wiring, once Chris Fleming finds the pair of pickups that Fred sent him last year. I've got multiple sets of tuners from 60s Guilds and a few bridges.

I'm conflicted. On one hand, I want to see pics of the reconstruction process. On the other hand, this is a family place and I don't know if there's any reason to have topless pics here.

Not to worry. The bass that's getting the new top isn't pictured.

In that spirit, a few years ago I approached the manager of the fish counter at a local supermarket.

"I would like to thank you sir. As the father of three young girls I appreciate that you only display "dressed" smelts."

For some reason he was not sure how to respond so he simply thanked me.

19 years? So did they know they basically stole the guitar?

I suppose it's spruce. I really don't know. The Lesh bass is definitely spruce, and will get spruce again, with f-holes I suppose. RT has suggested cat's eyes, but it originally had f-holes, so that would make more sense to me.

The reissue was supposed to be - I think that was the intent when they borrowed it - but as we know they went for the guitar body.

I don't entirely follow this, but it is a cool story none the less. I beleive the Newark Street M-85 is a copy of your bass (or one of Grots), however the Newark St. M-85 does not have a neck pickup. The GSR M-85 body (depth) is more like an M-75 guitar, or I suppose Identical to the GSR/Patriarch M-75, and the Newark Street M-75 Aristocrat. maybe that is what you meant? Sounds like you know what you are talking about. keep us posted on the twin Hoboken M-85 RT restorations! we're not worthy!!!

We're lucky to see and hear about these "pioneer" instruments.

Thanks!
