I'm good. How are you Al? I retired June 1 and have been enjoying life and my first biological grandson. A little guitar, a bit of hunting, a little travel, and a lot of golf.

Congrats on all counts and glad to hear it! I myself have been taking some vicarious pride in my nephew, just entered 7th grade. Online. Wow.

Myself, was furloughed last April. Unemployment was a given as COVID-related, and has been coming through like clockwork via good ol' US Mail. Company was paying their share of health ins. as long as I kept paying mine, but finally in August they couldn't keep on, so was PRIF'd with a 3 month severance consideration as of Sep 30th.

At 64, I'm weighing retirement myself. But because of the whole COVID thing I wasn't even required to look for work, so with all the extensions offsetting savings draw-downs, it's been like a year-long paid vacation for me! Almost hate to say it, but what's not to like?

Did start riding the bicycle in April at least 5 days a week out of every 7 for anywhere from 45m to a couple of hours, and a few even longer.

Streets were empty due to store closures, so explored my city on the ground, places I'd always been curious to check out, just pedaling steadily along. Almost no cars. Eerie but fun. :D

Saw the homeless encampments along the creekside bike trails and realized "there but for the grace of God go I"

COVID over all, and then the fires.

Just hunkered down and cooked a lot, glad I had such a nice place that I liked to hang out in.

Had a great physical in September.

But now, time to figure out this Medicare thing.

But I was really thinking of the Texas power problems. I kind of suspect you've got backup at your place, but still, it's been like a 100-year cold event, right?

I actually had that fixed on my DV52, my tech at Elderly popped the bridge off and re-glued it down flat. No glue issues.

45 year old D25M and 33 year old D15 - no gap.
Just re-reading and I realized something: we both have/had 3 Guilds, and one each out of both of our trios has/had the "gap".
Both late Westerlys with higher-grade tops. What're the odds?

Good shot of a significantly lifted bridge.

Good luck my friend. After 40 years in a chemical plant, retirement is great.........no meetings, no being called out on weekends, nights and holidays anymore, no real routine now.........and that entire facility is down now due to the weather.........2nd time since 1951. Yes, I know folks up north may be accustomed to this weather, but I'll be 64 in July myself, lived here almost all of my life, and have never seen anything like this. We actually hit ZERO degrees here at my house and had a solid foot of snow and ice on the ground. Texas wasn't ready, but the blame is not with the power companies and I won't get into assigning blame here. We were lucky at my house, as I live in the country and our electric coop never had a bobble in power. My son works for Oncor Electric in D/FW. He's not a lineman or anything like that, but he IS one of the guys who redirects power when there are outages. He hasn't had a day or night off, other than an occasional cat nap in 8 days. His outfit had 1.4 million folks without power along about Tuesday, and as of last night, they'd restored all but about 30,000.

You know, funny thing about this conversation is that I distinctly remember a bunch of hoopla about bridges popping off of Corona built Guild guitars way back then. : ) The reason given back then?..............bridges glued on after the guitar had the finish applied. Right here on LTG, the practice was considered a travesty back then. Heck, maybe everybody builds them that way. After reading here, I understand why, but it makes me wonder if that's an issue inherent in all acoustic guitars?

Oh and Al........at 64, to be riding a bike every day is both an accomplishment and a blessing........enjoy! : )

Must have been before my time, at least I don't recall ever reading it way back then (I lurked for about a year b4 I formally signed up).

But I'd be mightily surprised if that were true, unless maybe as an actual production error. But my Corona D40 was tight outta the box and still is, as is the D25.

Thanks buddy. it's actually the least wear and tear on my poor ol' gouty joints, and get a little extra boost having to carry it up and down a flight of stairs each time, too. :)

I was just going for cardio but wound up in probably in the best shape I've been in since about 40 barring a couple of age issues.
Down to 135lbs (my weight at age 25) from 170. (Am on a low-sodium diet too, but for my ear, not my heart)

I told my boss I was starting to look like Spiderman, the original skinny lanky teenage Ditko Spiderman:

:D

Been goin' to seed during the winter though. Looking forward to maybe mid-March again.

Glad to hear you're alright. Stay safe.
You don't drink coffee while yer drivin' anymore, do ya?

I remember a fellow who told us a story about skidding out in his truck 'cause he was drinkin' coffee on the job (driving), way back when I first joined... who was that guy? :sneaky:

Keep us "posted" buddy, it's nice to hear from you!

Ah, you remember that one ha Al? I assure you I'll never forget it. I drive past that spot every day.

I'll tell you my everyday exercise. About 12 years ago, I had a couple of knee surgeries........no meniscus left in my left knee. My surgeon, who'd just had a knee replacement told me to get an elliptical for great cardio and no wear and tear on the joints. I tried to talk him into a prescription for one.....no dice. I've just replaced my original NordicTrac elliptical.........finally broke the shaft in it. I bought the newer version NordicTrac elliptical with the "incline" on it. I climb on that sucker every single day for 40 minutes. I had to wait 5 weeks for it to arrive last month, and during that period, I actually hit 218 pounds. Today, after almost daily workouts for almost 2 months, I'm at 207. Sort of a "catch 22". It both wears me out, but makes me feel like $ million.

I intend to fight the old man all the way to the grave! Somebody asked Clint Eastwood how he looks so good at his age? He said, "I just don't let the old man in!'

One of the reasons I've gone to seed is that I used to be able to use an exercycle in the complex workout room in the wet season, but it's shut down due to COVID. It's about to open back up but it's just not the same as riding a real bike, anyway.

Also had a "semi-bad" hamstring pull on December 17th when my (rubber, even) heel went out from under me on a painted curb, wet from the rain. That put me down for 3 solid days, and I knew it was probably gonna be at least 6 weeks to get back to maybe 90%.

"Hey you...old man..... get off of my lawn..

Funny you mention that Al. Several years ago, I was walking into the plant where I worked......it's a big place with lotsa people. This one morning, it was pouring down rain and I hadn't left a pickup at the entrance the previous day, so that morning I had to walk.......and I was walking very fast in the deluge. On the way to my workplace back then was the busiest 4 way stop intersection in the plant, and they had just painted the curbs. Since I was half running, I was simply going to hop up on the curb, but the ball of my foot hit the slick, fresh wet paint and I went hands and face first into an enormous water puddle. You know how when you do something like that, the first thing you do is take a quick look around to see if anyone was watching? All 4 stop signs had trucks at them and all of the passengers were laughing their A$$es off.

Al, I've read somewhere that the best exercise is the one that we''ll do. Keep on ridin' brother.
