It was clear as the discussion was if the headstock should have had a black veneer, not if the guitar should have been black.
Ralf

1971 catalog and 1975 catalog. The one in the OP might be the "walnut" finish, it looks darker than natural.

He said he thinks it’s been refurbished. H

Maybe according to the order you read things and what you remembered but if it was clear we were talking only about the veneer and not the finish then I would have responded differently.

So no case. You guys are the experts. $650 a good deal assuming the pickups are HB-1’s? I’m going to go by this weekend and play it
Paul

just make sure the headstock has not been broken/repaired. the old veneers do shrivel and get removed so it might be nothing, just look closely for any repair or refinish. I have a back plate for that if u buy it. Pretty sure Hans has tuners and possibly a black Guild headstock veneer as well if u want one, it may not have the Chesterfield however. it probably does not need that, but could look cool. good luck!!

Plays great, is in great shape, but when I started playing it I remember why I sold my SG. I do not like a light guitar! I need some mass to it, need to feel it on my shoulders. So I’m gonna have to pass. It is in great shape. He is not to keen on shipping, but if push comes to shove I’ll help out. I’m buddies with all the guys at GC and Sam Ash in town, so I’m sure I could acquire a box.
Have at it boys!

I had been in contact with the guy as well, but then backed away a bit when I came across your thread. Your pause is giving me some pause as well. I don’t mind the weight of a SG but if it feels small (like my 64 Melody Maker did) then it’s a no go for me. Between the tele and my Starfire II I’m inclined to say I lean towards guitars with physical presence.

I also have a JS II bass coming this week, so I’m somewhat hoping that Tampa down my desire to buy this. Then again, it could make that desire worse.

I would think the JSII Bass is going to feel small to you.

I might have bought it, but have never actually seen a decent shot of the headstock from the front, nor did we figure out shipping cost. All reasons not to push too aggressively. I like deals that fall into place as if they were meant to happen.
