Over the last couple months I've been having an absolute blast getting to know my D55, so much so that after I play it I find myself just sitting and admiring it! This guitar is "the one" for me and I hope I'm buried with this darn thing. Last night while I was sitting there ogling it I noticed something strange about the abalone triangle of the third fret inlay...

there appears to be a face in it!
We need a young priest and an old luthier. And if that picture alone wasn't enough to convince you, behold:

Does it appear on certain songs, only? If so, don't play them anymore. He looks unsettled.

I have a bathroom full of travertine wall tile that messes with me all the time -- maybe you could just shut your eyes when you play; me, on the other hand . . . . !

There is a side profile of face on that abalone - up left - watching you when you play . . .

@ruedi I like the new inlay avatar!! Miss seeing your face, but this is real nice. What model Guild would that be on??

Thanks Tom! It's on the fifth fret of my Nightbird X-2000. Here's the fretboard, every inlay is a small little piece of art! When I stare at it for long enough now, I'm sure I will start to see funny faces, too 🧐

Your stunning D65S has some nice inlays as well! Good on you that in the end you made the right decision and brought the D4 back, otherwise we wouldn't have this nice little conversation 😉

Funny! Just yesterday a friend of mine pointed out the menacing smirk in the woodgrain around the 12th fret dots of my new bass!!

Your spooky inlay also kind of reminded me of this:
