I have been trying to get to there web site and it has been down for more than a week. I think Guild is sinking, they were just behind Taylor and Martin I hope that doesn't change (high production guitars). If they can't even keep a web site open for future buyers to do some research and see what there product line has offer. There is something wrong. if they are trying to keep up with the composition they better get there act together. Concerned loyal Guild customer.

Don't sound the death knell yet.

The site is still running, but it has been slow for a few weeks...

Fender (Guild's owner) *is* shutting down both Tacoma and Guild guitar production in Tacoma, WA facility that Guild was moved to in 2005. Tacoma guitars are essentially done. Guild is supposed to be moved to the Ovation/Hamer facility in Connecticut over this year.

How this is going to pan out... I don't know. Many of us are skeptical. Cross your fingers. It's possible that in a year's time, all that'll be left are the GAD series guitars. I sincerely hope not.

Website at http://www.guildguitars.com/ loaded for me just fine, Feb. 7, 2008 8 PM EST. It took longer than I would like but it did load.

I can be as cynical as the next person but I'm not sure I'd jump to any conclusions about the health of a division of a larger company just because I can't get the web site to work.

There may be a technical problem. My name server gives three IP addresses for http://www.guildguitars.com but only one of them responds to a ping which, in non geek speak says they are not answering.

Where are the servers located for guildguitars.com? Would they be moving them or perhaps just performing some maintenance?

Like he said /\

If you have 3 ip addresses to handle the volume of traffic and only one is responding, the site will be slow. There could be a whole bunch of technical reasons for slowness, just ask anyone who knows me.

It sure does look like something is going on. They just moved to Tacoma and they are getting GREAT reviews on guitars coming out of there and there CHINA line is getting much bigger than the US mother load main line. Oops We are moving AGAIN something stinks. In guild's defense there are some strange things going on with Taylor and Fender joining Market forces and Martin starting some kind of out of country productions. So who knows? but is kind of interesting trying to follow it. and what ever we think or print it isn't going to change a thing so lets not go ballistic.

dpicker, I think we're all a little worried about the future of Guild. FYI, we had another thread going on this where there was quite a lot of discussion on the subject. Cross your fingers, anyway.

I'm not too concerned, I agree not to get to excited. So if I understand correctly Guild is moving to the Ovation facility. Well Ovation has been around a long time with professional musicians playing their instruments. I think this should be a good thing, with the growing popularity of Guilds they need to expand continue on course and at the same time look at inOvation. They have been building nice stuff in Tacoma both traditional Guilds and the contemporary line which I own one of, the CV-1 which has composite materials in the ingredients. I would think the model lines would continue regardless of the location. Let all hope for the best. (I'm not suggesting a tuperware Guild though)

I know Glen Campbell played Ovations,I wonder how much he was paid. I had one a few years ago and plastic sides and backs don't vibrate. If you ever lose your canoe paddle your in business (just a little humor).

I just can't warm up to them. Every time I go into the local guit store I pull several off the wall and I almost alway play an Ovation, figure it's the only one I'll ever get, and I just don't like the feel of them. I find them slippery. And I hate the headstock.

I actually played an Ovation for several years in the 70's....until I played my first Guild.

Ovations are OK, .... really they sound much better than you would expect from a plastic bowl, way better.

Worst problem I have with Ovations is they're like holding a greasy watermelon in your lap, keeps wanting to slide off onto the floor.

Yep, and I thought they sounded and played great until I heard and played a Guild. I'd never touched a Martin or Gibson back then and am not sure if Taylor existed.
