Hi - I've got a Corona JF30-12 that I'm looking for some info on - while changing strings, I felt around the inside, specifically under the bridge. I felt what seemed like it might be wires from a piezo or undersaddle pickup. But I couldn't find a battery bag or clip for a battery for an onboard preamp. The end pin seemed like a plug for an output, so I can't understand whether or not this model came with a pickup. If so, did it have a battery powered preamp? Where would the battery be? Any info on when this might have been made ? Thanks

My 2002 Corona-built has a battery in a cloth pouch affixed to the neck block. It's an eternal honeymoon with this guitar!

Sounds like it's got a passive pickup, which wouldn't have a battery powered pre-amp

Grassdog - good info, it must be a passive pickup, I just had to raise the volume on my amp more than I was used to. I'm now getting sound from it through the amp. Thanks, Bob

Wolf, it’s a passive system, so you should probably use a preamp of some sort. That’s why you have to turn up your amp more than you are used to. Lots of great options for preamps, as soon as you learn what type of pickup you have. Take a look with a mirror inside the guitar and look up towards the pins and bridge plate. If you just see a skinny wire coming from a small hole and going to the output jack, it’s most likely an UST, or piezo-type-under-saddle pickup. If you see what look like small round pucks glued to the bridge plate, usually either one or even three, then it’s a transducer system, more like mics that also pick up body resonance and sound.

Thanks, that confirms what I've started believing. When installing fresh strings, I felt under the bridge, and felt small cables (I think3) from the bottom of the bridge, which I assumed was some sort of pickup, but since I hadn't been getting any signal from the endpin, I assumed that there was a battery either dead or missing, but I couldn't find a place for a battery

Still hoping for someone with a definitive answer to chime in.

They used Fishman AG-125's (as on my Corona D40) which are passive but could be had with the Power Jack system:
