I never heard of African padauk before today, but I'll soon own a couple solid pieces of it (and a Sitka spruce top) in this GAD F40P. Is it like rosewood or mahogany? Those are the only woods I've had in my acoustic bodies. Has anyone played a GAD F40P?

A beginner must have owned it, judging by its last stringing. I asked the store to loosen the strings before shipping to reduce the pressure on the treble-side nut slots:

Padauk has been used in guitars for quite a long time. I first came across it in the ‘70s, when Yamaha frequently used it for necks on their acoustics made in Taiwan (FG-160 & others). Given that application, l’ve always thought of it as being closer to mahogany.

I had one. 12 fretter nice deep mahogany type growl. Everyone who played it loved it.

Well made flawless construction. Nice tweedy case

I just couldn't live with the 1.75 nut otherwise for the price...heck not even considering price it was just a great guitar

I have two great sounding Paduak GADs . Paduak is closer to Rosewood than mahogany. Harder and heavier than rosewood. My GAD-50PCE sounded close to a D-55. D-55 didn't sound $2000 better.

Funny...to my ears the paduak sounded more like mahogany to me....

But then again, I like domestic mass produced beer.

Just going by what others say. I didn't have a rosewood until just recently. Builders use Paduak as a substitute for Rosewood. But some say it sounds between Mahogany and Maple, as this article states. Anyway it sounds good.
