I got my Tacoma built F512 in April of 2008. I took it with me over the holidays to a colder climate, central Texas to North Texas. Let it sit in the case for a day to adjust... opened it up and the top below the bridge bubbled up. De-tuned it, brought it back to central Texas and it got a little better. My dealer looked at it and said nothing I did should have caused it. He is sending it back for repair... I'm having withdrawls... Dealer found some other problems he didn't like... Oh well... sigh...

I will be purchasing an F512 by the end of the month or in beginning of Feb and I have decided that during the winter months I will not take the Guild out of the house. With ones I have owned in the past I have tried really hard in cold weather so not to even have finish cracks. But I failed at that. So to be on the safe side I will just keep it home during the winter and take my Taylor out then.

Oh, and sorry about your guitar I hope it gets taken care of and it all works out.

Well, as you can see, back on January 8 of this year I took my 512 back for a warranty repair. Guild still has it and is "still" working on it. Local shop said "Just send him a new one". There response, "We would but we haven't built any yet". Oh well... actually received the guitar a year ago on April 21st. Looks like Guild may have it for repair for as long as I had it in my hands. Local shop has a new "05" D55 I looked at. It has what appears to be a crack in the back and 2 small raised areas by the pin end of the guitar. Might take a chance on it if this warranty repair goes OK... SIGH...

Be patient, my friend. Most warranty repairs take longer than you expect, it will be back and in fine shape.

EddieZ,
Have you linked up with LTGer Russ? He lives in the Austin area. One heck of a songwriter & picker...

Bummer, Eddie. Unfortunately, I think that's the norm for this kind of thing. I wonder what they're actually doing to it. Maybe they're waiting to replace it with a new one from New Hartford. To my knowledge they haven't made any there yet. I do think there are still new TAcomas around though.

Finally got my F512 back toward the end of April. I was told they reset the neck, re-fretted, and reworked the top. It sounded better than new and a great action. Here it is 6 weeks later and the top started to buble again on the low E side behind the bridge... SIGH... Back to the dealer. They are contacting the Fender rep again on Monday. They, GuitarRez, are going to try and get me a new one.

Anyone have an idea when the new factory will start producing the F512?

Scratch, nope haven't met Russ. I'm pretty much a newbie at age 59...

Hi Eddie- Sorry to hear about the 512. I have been playing Guild 12's for over 35 years; a few just have perpetual problems and need to be replaced instead of repaired. A couple of weeks ago, quite by accident, I went into a music store and on the wall were 4 guilds- two f-50r's and two 512's - all Tacoma's. The action on all four was horrible; I was shocked- complete with belly bulges, sunken tops, odd neck angles and buzzes. These guitars were humidified and not over-strung. I have a student who got one off ebay and it plays pretty well. You might want to ask for a refund and get a Westerly off ebay or Craig's list. Ask plenty of questions first. Repairs often take much longer than expected. Years ago, I had a 512 neck repair that took almost 10 months. I still play guild 12's- they have no peers. Best of luck, Scott

Eddie, for the record, do you know the serial on your F-512... I'd like to know when it was built. I know you bought it new, but that doesn't indicate how long it was held by the music store...

Really sorry to hear of your woes. By the way, what kind of "bubbling" are you talking about? Is it in the finish, or are you referring to a bulge in the soundboard (belly)...

Serial number is TK263016 and was delivered to shop from Tacoma as far a I know. Never hung in a shop. The buble was the sound board below the bridge on the low E side. If you think of how a insect bite bubbles the skin a little in one area that's the way it looks. Here is a pic, not great.

This is the same place as original "bubble" but not as severe. The shop has another 512 about the same age with no bubble problem.

Hope this helps.

Happy to report exactly zero problems with my '06 F-412. Now in it's fourth year of being played a bunch.

FYI, Eddie, K 263 is day 263 (late in the year) of 2007.

Well, that's a serious bummer. I can't say I see what you're talking about from the picture, but given the angle you're showing, I assume you're talking about belly-bulge. Unquestionably, you should not be seeing this on a new axe, and if it's bad it probably indicates the Sitka top is separating from the X brace which holds it in place around the bridge area. Not good.
