I am the owner of a 1980 412 12 string, and am partners with a guy that owns one of the 20 or so remaining 612s. I just thought I'd jump in here and start a conversation!

Welcome!
Pictures of your 412 would be most appreciated, and of course your buddy’s 612 which is a holy grail of 12 strings. Lots of love for 12 strings around here.

Welcome! Stick around - nice folks around here.

I'd love to hear an audio clip of those two 12-strings in full cry - 24 strings of Guild awesomeness.

Well Vroomie, awful hard to be gentle when I've never heard of a "412XL" :p

Hazing aside, is it actually an F412, arched maple back 12-string with a 17" wide lower bout?

As far as I recall, Guild only used that "XL" designation on the 17" bout version of the F212, which was 16" lower bout. SO when they wanted to build a 17" 'hog-bodied 12 they called it the "F212XL"

Don't feel bad, even some of our most devout members gave up trying to keep track of Guild's model numbers years ago. :D

Sincerely, welcome aboard, and forgive my teasing. Wouldn't be the first time somebody had an "oopsie", and we're pretty tolerant 'round here actually. In your case it was just too tempting to resist, and because you mentioned the "XL", there was the possibility there really was a typo in the "412". ;)

When I can, I will go get you one better than that: I'll make a video of Don playing the 612, my other bandmate playing his 212, and me playing my 412!

It's OK! This ain't the first group of anoraks I've ever been involved in… :)

I am also on an online form for Jaguars (the cars, NOT the guitars), a car with which I have much experience, and those people can argue about angels dancing on the heads of combustion chambers all day long!

Nice lineup. The guitar third from the right looks like an early F512, which has the same inlays as the F612.

I love Jaguar. My momma had a '70 XKE roadster v12 4spd. She let me drive it once, to go to dinner in San Francisco for her birthday, think I was about 25 or 26.

Beautiful freeway cutting up the peninsula for about 30 miles, through the hills, nice long sweepers, great visibility far ahead, great views... I was at 90 on the freeway in 3rd (getting up to cruising speed after coming down the ramp politely but briskly) and the car was rock solid and still barely turning 3800rpm IIRC, but she reigned me in. :D

75mph limit after that, loafing in 4th...ah but the road feel!!!.

It was to be mine but she had to sacrifice the car during a battle with cancer. So it goes.

Also had a love affair with first-gen RX-7's, had 5 of 'em over the course of 15 years or so, with 2 and even 3 at once for some of that time.

When I got my D25 I thought it was like a guitar equivalent of the RX, with the arched back being analogous to the rotary engine.

Also affordable, reliable, economical and fun to drive. Not to mention that styling.

And that D25 led to 2 other Guilds. :D

I salute your good taste sir and again, welcome aboard!
