I will grant he's penned a few true gems although the majority of his stuff just doesn't get my foot tappin'. I DO like "Holly Holy" and "I Am I Said", and I will unbashedly admit to having a chart for "Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow" and even having played it at least 5 times in the past year. You might recall that one from the days he was just a songwriter, and Kirshner got it for the Monkees. My girlfriend likes the Monkees too.
Hey, they had some pretty serious session men on those first couple of discs, and Peter actually wrote (and played the guitar) on that cool tune "For Pete's Sake" they used at the end of the show later on. I like to do that one too.
Just throwin' nostalgia balls around again! Funny how much more we liked our youth now compared to when we were actually livin' it, eh?.

Early Neil Diamond is great stuff. I have a live album of him with bass, guitar and drums that just smokes.

Remember that godawful movie "Jonathan Livingston Seagull?" He did the soundtrack for that movie.

But I'm a big fan, used to listen to Neil Diamond 8 tracks a lot when I was in high school :D "Brother Love's Travelin' Salvation Show" was always a fave of mine.

That imposter is O.k. but certainly no Neil.

I like most of Neil's music.
I always thought it had a lot of power.

I never saw the movie, but I like the "Seagull" music.

Saw Neil D about a year ago here in Toronto. Wouldn't have gone, but we were offered free tickets

Great show. There must have been 12 musicians & singers on stage, all touring pros, including the Waters sisters as backup singers. I'm not the greatest ND fan, but I appreciate a good show by good musicians. And did I mention that the price was right?

The very next night, another guy named Neil played a hometown show. Didn't go :(

My two favorite Neil songs: "Solitary Man" and "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon"

Love those depressing lyrics... :( :D

Like Markus, I too like the 12 songs cd............well written songs and EZ to play!!! ( i LOVE what rick rubin did to Johnny Cashes sound) As to Neil , I enjoy playing his music now more than listening to it.........but still, i enjoy his music all in all....and Nearly neil, certainly has got his Neil 'mojo' working....Ive seen the real Neil about 4 times now....ALWAYS a great show. he knows HOW to work an audience alright.
'Hot August Night' was my first 'real' album purchase...when i was about 12. Listened to it MANY MANY times in my youth and it has certainly imprinted itself upon my memory in many ways.
"are you still out there 'Tree people'?

I saw Neil in concert a couple times way back when... first was from the "Hot August Night" tour (a live album), in Portland OR when I was in high school. Later, several times at the Hollywood Bowl in... Hollywood. I think they were at the times of the JL Seagull and Serenade albums. I wasn't as fond of the later music (tho some good tunes on Serenade)... but Hot August Night was great... even from the nosebleed section of the old Memorial Coliseum. Haven't listened to him in years... all on vinyl, and I don't have a turntable set up anymore...

Actually, you're absolutely right. In fact, the CD changer for my stereo even died last summer... so aside from my guitars, the only place I listened to music for the last 6 months was my car. I finally decided to give up on getting a new CD player, bought a 16 GB iPod Nano and cables to connect it to my receiver, and spent two weeks loading 160+ CDs onto it (I've got ~ 2 GB space left). It started me thinking about all the music we have on vinyl that never was "converted" to (purchased as) CDs... PP&M, John Denver, CCR, Eagles, Paul Simon (with and w/o Art), and less "famous" stuff... Boys of the Lough, Gordon Bok, etc.

My recording interface actually will accept inputs from my turntable... but at this point I'll probably just slowly pick up the absolute necessities from iTunes or Amazon (already started with my favorite PP&M, John Denver, and best of S&G). Diamond's "Hot August Night" isn't at the top of the list... (I think that might either be Graceland or Hotel California)... but it's probably on the list. D
