So in the title you say "if you could have any acoustic guitar" and then you follow it with "between Martin, Taylor, Gibson and Guild. So that's not ANY. If I was picking at random I'd love to have a Collings. So why can't I wish for that??

From what I've played in the GC acoustic room over the years, it would be a RI built maple Guild.
probably the greatest guitar I have ever played, (soundwise), was a Westerly built F412 at a GC. It was absolutely magical.

A pre-war Martin. I like Guild acoustics, but let's be realistic here.

I think you'd get a different answer from many if the question wasn't just about your favorite playing/sounding guitar but also which has the most financial worth/upside.

I've never played a prewar Martin and likely never will. I will say that I can't think of any other brand that sounds as good to my ear as several of the Guild models and specifically, the F 50/F 55.

I've experimented with quite a few different brands but always find myself drawn back to Guild. And yes, I am admittedly a bit biased.

I‘ve wondered about that very thing over the last year, and ended up with Guilds 🤪🤣

I would take F612 - no matter who had it first.

If that does not count - Sting was playing Fragile on radio - so Guild Paloma comes second.

For sure I would Glenn. I was all set to buy it but it really deserved to go back to you. That being said, if you ever feel the need to unload that one, keep me in mind.

You're first in line -- assuming Heath doesn't change his mind and decide he wants it back again!

We have an agreement in place whereby we offer any guitars we buy from one another back to its former owner -- at the same price we sold it for -- before we put it on the market. In addition to the "Glen Rock" F50, I also bought back a custom made Rickard open-back banjo when Heath needed funds to replace his car.

If it has to be an acoustic then a mint pre-war Martin so I could sell it and buy something I really wanted like the original Brockburst Les Paul.

But this is a fantasy scenario -- you can go straight to the Les Paul without going through a pre-War Martin!

Well the OP specifically says acoustic so either I need a scheme or I’d need to never plug in the Les Paul and that’s just a sin. :)
Or, you can start a different thread covering electrics.

Well, demonstrably for @Christopher Cozad and me, an F-612 would already be at both of our houses (probably sharing time) if money were no object.

For me, a Martin D-28 Authentic 1931 (or a "real" 1931 model!!!) would be on the list.

I can't honestly think of anything else I'd really like to have, except as Richard noted if we're talking about serious collecting/trading/investing... That's another story.

Having thought awhile I think a Nightingale would be very high on my list.

Well if the goal was primarily investment then a pre-war Martin D-28 would be high on the list.... but so would anything I could acquire of John Denver's collection.
But if it is a player then I would thoroughly lose myself trying to decide F-512 / D12/15/16/16/25 -12..........Play one then another then another. and just keep smilin'!!!

Would it be a Guild? Between Martin, Taylor, Gibson and Guild. Not including high-end custom-built guitars.
I'll stick with Guild. Guild guitars call to me. Taylors and Gibsons, not so much. Martins not at all, in fact I'm a little turned off by them
