There is a new guitar auction that was just listed that's not too far from me coming up in a couple months that features a bunch of REALLY nice Gibsons...from the 30's...up to their respective vintage reissue counterparts. (Which are also amazing guitars!) I might just have to go see these in person, pretend to be an interested bidder, and see about getting to noodle around on some of these classics. 🤓

I know I'm on the wrong forum to say this....but there are at least 5-6 Gibsons (and 2 Fenders!) here I would easily take over any Guild.

Midnight Toker,
You've got to be careful what you say here, lest the locals get out their pitchforks and torches, and come a-calling some evening.
But between you, me and whoever else might be listening in on this conversation, I feel the same way about Martins.

Well if anyone were to actually click on the hibid link to the auction in my above post, once they pick their mouth up off the floor, an additional search for the going value of the listed guitars would also indicate that if I actually could afford them, that any pitchforks and torches wouldn't stand a chance getting over my castle walls, much less through the gator filled moat! :p:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I too have constructed a fortress with mine fields, punji pits, and very deep subterranean bunkers.
Had no choice after disagreeing with the Gibsonians that their guitars were the bestest in the whole, wide, world.
Apparently that didn't go over well.
Even so, l never sleep in the same place for more than a day or two lest they get me with one of their lethal "J-200" anti-Martin drones.

We have ways to find your IP address and if you are not using a VPN we can find you. (If you are using a VPN we have some pretty good ideas but we can't talk about them). We have a list of the heretics and they are targeted, but since LTG's primary source of income is donations we are having trouble obtaining the drone fleet and trouble with the ethics of using a drone, purchased with donations from the sale of a non-Guild, against a the owner of a non-Guild. We also have trouble with run-on sentences and the proper use of first person singular vs. first person plural.

Well, if I could find and afford the round neck version of my '34 square neck M16, I would probably go with : gettyimagesM16ajpg.jpg
.I do have 2 steel round neck M32 models, but there is something about German silver, especially when engraved...$_58d.JPG

beecee,
Well you're S.O.L.
You are referring to the Martin 000-28E.C., and it has a 1-3/4" nut.
Too bad you can't live with that.
I have a hockey bud who has one, and it is wonderful.
Sounds like angels singing, even when I play it.
That's how good it is.

Whatever it is, the acoustic would have to be something that sounds like angels, plays like my Gibson B-25, and it such a sad cosmetic state that I would never have to worry about playing in less than ideal surroundings . I want to see how the Furch brand holds up over the years and might opt for one of RW Vintage dreads in player condition.

I have more Guilds than I should and the Martin brand takes too much effort to navigate between good and bad years/models. I play old Guilds because I have enough to worry about and I need my guitar to be there when its time to play.

I’ve got your back, Toker. My guitar rack is loaded with old Gibsons.

You don't scare me!
I've put up a screen overhead made from Gibson guitars, so if any of your drones fly over my Fortress of Dorkitude, they will meet and mutually annihilate.
Bwaaahaaha.

PS -

Never played a Mossman. Thought about buying one once. I suspect I'd like 'em a lot.
Hi Charlie,

How can any Guild player not love a Mossman, especially considering the shape of the headstock?

In 1979 I bought a brand new Mossman Timber Creek. I had not yet owned a dreadnought body guitar and this one was magnificent. I was so impressed with the instrument I wanted to talk to someone about it. Sometime in 1980, I think, I found a phone number and called, reaching Stuart Mossman's wife. She fetched him from the shop and we spoke for about an hour, me gushing about his guitar and him telling me all about everything. Apparently, I had just missed one of the Carradines, who had just stopped by for a visit (the brothers all owned and played Mossman guitars). He was really happy that David got him a bit part in a movie called Cloud Dancer, a story about competition aerobatics, and wanted me to watch it. I had flown Pitts Specials (no, not competitively), so that part of the conversation took up a good 15 minutes, or so. We talked about the matched set of a 6 and 12 string guitar he had built for John Denver. John had used those guitars on his self-titled album from 1978? '79? (Which is what had inspired me to recognize and purchase the Mossman, when I saw it in a music store). Stuart was quite a character.

I performed many a night with that guitar, alongside my trusty Guild F-50R (another John Denver-inspired purchase). Though both the Mossman and the Guild featured Rosewood back and sides and Spruce tops, that is where the similarity ended; they sounded worlds apart. A few years later, wanting something else more at the time, I sold the Mossman. I quickly realized that was a mistake and, to this day, consider that loss as my Single-Most-Foolish Guitar Transaction (Somebody want to do another epic thread, titled SMFGT ? ☺️).

A friend of mine back then played a Martin D-45, and I recall more than one comparison between the Martin and my Mossman. My guitar, while lacking the bling of his D-45, was every bit as loud and balanced.

Curiously, as I write this, I see there is a '76 Timber Creek for sale on Reverb for $3200 (not that I was looking, mind you).

When I lived in Kansas (Mossman were made in KS), a lot of Mossman guitars came through my local guitar shop for repair/servicing and there were always a few for sale. I got to play a bunch, but they were not my cup of tea. The bluegrass guys sure loved them, though!

You know, this is as hard as if you asked "What if you could only have one guitar..."

Except for pining for some electric that I am never going to use...Gretsch or Ric for example...I think I am actually "full up." o_O
Love the pieces I have, don't see how anything could be better, and nothing I want to part with. Maybe a "first year" GSR F-40...nawww

Fun to look through, but then...
