So I'm done with the 2 day whirlwind of gluing and clamping, it's just hurry up and wait for goodies now.

This is it after some love. She's a looker.

Lookin really good considering the state it was in.

I love this "road map" and have no plan to remove it.

House paint overspray so typical of so many antiques I've refurbished over the years. And if you've dealt with it before, you know those specks are virtually impossible to remove.

The neck angle is just slightly less than ideal as you might expect of an acoustic this old, this beat, this neglected, but I wanted things to line up properly gluing it up, cosmetically, so it is what it is.

And yes, the Burst is divine. Many out there look to have been refin-ed, par for the course after this long.

Some folks can't suffer any wear, others can't get enough.

I'm just really excited to hear it, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

I found a decent enough case for it, and big enough for it. Had to kick a guitar out of it but it's worth it. Cases are hydration stations.
Has appropriately vintage reptile grain. I'll look for something better eventually, as long as it's vintage appropriate.

Figured out what that last brace was last night, a transverse brace that goes flat against the top just below the neck block. Tricky to install, I'd already glued in the long transverse brace the goes above the soundhole, so I had to cut an 8x1"x1" chunk of old lumber so I could clamp it with the 1st brace in the way.

If only I'd known a couple days ago what I knowed now.

Brace, the flat lower one.

Installed.

The case makes a dandy work station, propped up on two other hardcases on a chair, nice height.

They're not kidding when they say "light builds"! Only thing missing is pins/strings for accurate total weight.

Strings patiently awaiting install.

Good looking back repair.

While I'm in a lull waiting on these bridge pins from Elderly - I shoulda sprung for Priority, they have now hit 5 different locations in MI - I'm going to be looking at tuner options, keeping the originals on, ot looking through my stash for some old Waverlys, as long as the screw spacing is the same, I'll consider a swap to something a little fresher.

Also going to measure the old strings, most of which beside a random flatwound had black ferrules.

Black Diamond?

My mom lives outside Concord NH. Her dump days are Tues/Thurs and Saturday mornings. When I go out there to visit, I enjoy doing the dump runs w her. Very well organized facility and they have a shack on site where you can buy stuff found in the dump that are worth selling or still hold some value.

Yeah, we have no garbage pickup. But the dump is free (with a resident sticker). Open 7 days a week.

Water is also free since we have a well.

But Mrs. Cougar can always find things to spend money on. 🙄

Decided to go with a set of Gotoh aged nickel/off white button tuners from Arkansas Music Works on eBay. Originals are pretty hashed, bent shafts, crumbling shrunken buttons, sloppy as all get out. Stew Mac has exact repros for near $100, too much. The Gotohs have the right spacing, I have a set on a National Lap Steel and the screw spacing checks out, which is my only concern.

If I get bored, I can always go back to using a damp paper towel and fingernails to remove excess glue off the guitar, never seen anything like it.

All of that grossness is excess glue, sloppy, careless, disturbing.

If you're talking about the Golden Age tuners from StewMac, they are certainly nothing special. Gotohs are the better choice.

Yeah, Golden Age, actually read some pretty negative stuff about em from someone who had bought several sets, and I'm a huge Gotoh fan from way back.

I sprung for the aged nickel/off white buttons, a few more bucks but worth it.

A good look at the originals made it kind of a no brainer. I could re-button the originals, maybe straighten the bent shafts, but they'd still be 75 years old, sloppy, been through the ringer.

Shrunken buttons don't look like they'd be a whole lotta fun to tune with.

What's amazing is a guitar this old, bone stock original, nothing's been boogered by the wonky swapping of tuners that's so common on vintage axes, and many times a deal breaker for me.

What could be an original nut.
