I've griped about my X160 Corona Rockabilly in black on these pages and others and probably wasn't fair. I didn't like certain aspects of the guitar, most especially the pickup volume.

I repent.

After listing it on craigslist and the gretsch pages halfheartedly, I took it to my guitar tech and had him:

1) Put a spacer in to lift the bridge pickup

2) Put .12 flatwounds on to balance out the treble that comes off the aluminum bridge. It had 11 rounds on before.

OMG. Much, much better. HUGE bass and mids. Great low, low action. Anyone who has one-- get a spacer, it makes a huge difference.

Sorry folks she's off the market-- time to put a pinup decal on and rock out!

Yeah, I know. :)

Well the truth is that I had a 2003 Gretsch 120th Annie with flats on it, and it was much too muddy for me. I think with the x160 its just balanced out the tone nicely-- something I should have done a long time ago but was afraid to tinker with it.

Not sure-- looks like white plastic to me though -- my guess is that he just cut it to fit. Really helps with the overall balance of the pups.

D'Addario has a line called half-rounds - sort of a hybrid of flats and roundwounds the 1/2 flat is on the surface - works nicely on my Starfire 3 where I use 10s (plain G). I use flats on my early 60s Gretsch double annie with no problem - but I have experienced that muddy sound. I once tried flats on a Telecaster - big mistake.
