I Screwed Up A Litlle Bit (Yes, Again)

I had my Goo Gone bottle out to clean the sticky adhesive junk from my scissors. Of course, I knocked it over with my elbow and spillled a fair amount on a couple cases near my computer desk. They happened to be the cases for my F 55E GSR from Oxnard and my D 100 NT CRV.

I took the guitars out of their cases and nothing had gotten onto them. So, I wiped the cases down really well and now both the guitars and cases are breathing some of that wonderful Michigan Spring air. I thought why not take a couple pics while they are out so here they are. Not great pics but you can get the idea. Both are superb guitars.

I typically use isopropyl alcohol to clean grungy cases - It might help get any residual Goo Gone gone!

How about naptha, Bob? Probably do a much better job than alcohol. I know that's not dangerous to guitars, Well, I guess if you pour it into the soundhole it's not going to do any good, but you know what I mean.

Apologies for the "butt-inski", but I think short-term'd be ok, but you wouldn't want to let it sit for too long (like less than 5 minutes?), it is a cleaning agent after all. And yeah, in the soundhole probably isn't too good.

But I think in this case (yuk!) it would be more that it's just a PITA to cleanup.

Never tried naphtha on cases Charlie, so I don't know. Started using rubbing alcohol a long time ago to clean the tolex on amps & cases, and to help control mildew buildup (cool temps & high humidity along the coast). It seemed to work well, so being a creature of habitual OCDness, I've happily stuck with it!

Is this Goo Gone thing likely to work in getting rid of some (Neoprene) glue in a light case for guitar ; I have a Tobago guitar case (light but 'hard') that I now use for an old guitar, but the protective foam got unstuck almost everywhere. My trying to have it fixed didn't work well, and I spilled glue in various spots...Other than that, the case is okay, and can protect a guitar pretty well I'd say ; but the inside is quite ugly coz of this glue...
Anything you'd know someone that's likely to solve the issue ?

Not sure. The directions say it easily removes adhesives, crayon, gum, glue and more. It's pretty inexpesive.

It says to NOT use it on silk, leather,suede, rubber,faux stainless steel,,unpainted drywall,unfinished wood surfaces and unsealed stone.

I often have to remove goo from stones, so this is good to know.

If you didn’t find out yet it’s a Sitka top . Oxblood is the color I believe. I thought it was African Mahogany because of the striping .

I recently cleaned up a very grungy 45 year old tolex case with McGuire's convertible (car) top cleaner. It worked like a charm -- couldn't believe how nice the case turned out.

Yes, that is indeed a Sitka Spruce top they used but the stripes on Richard's one were pretty special.
This 60 pieces limited run of the F-55E Maple only came in Oxblood Red in 2020/2021. I'm not sure if they really finshed/sold all 60 pcs. yet, we have seen far fewer only.

Some had plain tops like that one:



But there were some good examples which are sisters to Richard's one, they obviously got a stash of such striped sitka spruce.

Yeah, well, the striping gave me pause, but I think that's due to mineral deposits in the wood. It's pretty unusual in Sitka, I think.
