So, I've sold about 30 acoustics and electrics over the last 3 to 4 months and I've bought far, far less than that so I'm on the path I set out to follow. But, I keep finding cool stuff the custom builder I mentioned a while back (Richie Crowder) makes. So far, I've received one of his and I have ordered 4 more made of pretty special woods. I totally lost my discipline and ordered another yesterday. It will be a Dreadnaught made of Purple Heart with a Carpathian Spruce top, Ebony board and bridge etc. They say Purple Heart is very dense and a bit difficult to work with but he's going to build me one. It will be a while before I get it but I'll share some pics when I get it.

So while you may have "slipped" a bit, 30 out and 5 back in is still progress, yeah?? As much as I don't play these days, it's difficult for me to justify the five I have!! Congrats on reducing the herd, Richard. Good for you!!

That could be a spectacular guitar in dreadnaught shape! I have seen two guitar builders in Germany and Vienna/Austria who made guitars and classical guitars from Amaranth, the purple color looks good and they say it is harder than maple. I have not heard them, so no idea how the sound is. Some other European luthiers also work with the wood from time to time.

Dana Bourgeois made some:

And here is a classical model:

And I don't think those "purple heart" guitars would count... :ROFLMAO: :

Shame on you guys. I read all your congrats and best wishes so then I just ordered another. This will be a Dreadnaught with Curly Eastern Black Walnut B&S, Red Spruce top, Ebony board and bridge, torch inlay on the headstock and Herringbone trim. Should be a very cool guitar as well.

walnut/spruce is a terrific combo, Richard, although with walnut I think I'd've gone with a cedar top. I'm sure it'll be wonderful!

I have a NA flute out of purple heart. I know nothing about the wood other than it is dense and heavy.

Looking forward to some NGD pics and reviews Richard.

Good on you Richard! Glad for you.
Happiness is having something to be enthusiastic about and from reading your post over the past three years, I have identified four of yours:
Acoustic guitars, dogs, cats, and guns.
Don't stop!!

I have a side hustle building things to fund my GAS. I mentioned that to the home owner, who told his dad, who met me there Sunday. His grandfather was in a band, and left him 40 guitars. He has 16 left. This job is going to end up costing me a fortune!

I have a chessboard where the dark squares and the border are purpleheart and the light squares are birds-eye maple. I freaking love it. I didn't even know that purpleheart was a thing before I saw it.
