I bought a Guild GAD-25 recently - I also owned a D55 (1979 Westerly) - and, amazingly, I liked the sound of the GAD-25 as much as the D55! The build quality is EXCELLENT, and the price was amazing. So , I sold the D55 and kept the GAD-25 (wife wouldn;t let me keep both!)

I even did a blind test with my wife - playing the D55 and GAD-25 alternately - she thought the GAD-25 sounded better! While I wouldn't go that far, they are amazingly close!

Go figure!

THOU SHALT NOT BLASPHEME!!!!!! :)

That's great, hopper. I"m glad you like it. I'll have to try that GAD model. I would think the mahogany would sound completely different than the rosewood...

How is the action on the GAD, starhopper?

The couple of new ones that I have played had high action, and not much saddle available to lower it.

A large part of a guitar's tone is the top wood.
Even a low-priced Chinese guitar can accidently get a great top and sound wonderful.

I took it to a bluegrass jam last week - I was surrounded by Martin HD-28's! Many of the players tried the GAD, were duly impressed and couldn;t believe I only paid $399 for it.

OK, here goes utter blasphemy: I was in the market for a 000-size and in one day, two guitars arrived from ebay sellers! One was a GAD30 and the other was an Epiphone Masterbilt 000. The GAD looked like a smaller clone to my D50 and that part I liked. When I compared the sound, however, I quickly lost interest in the GAD and the Epi now hangs in my office.
I also didn't find the GAD to be that impressive overall, so.....
...so, burn me at the stake!

Glad you were able to adjust the action to where you like it.

Always fun to get a true bargain.

Congrats.
