Dominic on guitar and it looks like Vinnie Calaiutta on drums can't be bad either.

I'll be honest, I thought Lady Gaga was a bit over the top. Bring it down about 10% and it all works better. I've heard her do some really good stuff in the past.

More than 493 days ago so no problems with the repeat. I looked it up to see whether the same people said the same things this time around. So far that hasn't happened :)

Oh, I'm glad I didn't post a response then! What happens to those who post the same thing again?

I know I've done it once or twice, but I don't recall the consequences, except a bit of embarrassment...

If she did 340% more over the top, I would not have finished watching the video. What downer drugs did she take to do the Star Spangled Banner a few years ago, then? Who keeps her down with Tony Bennett?

Aw!Very impressive and professional. (maybe it takes 2 "n"s?-Coffeeeee,please!) I would not have seen this but for Ltg! Thanks! I've never cared much about these two,I'm glad they are here somewhere and Lady Gaga seems to be more than a clown. She is really something!!(Hope she doesn't sabotage FZ's house, though!!) Good to hear Vinnie C. (Colaiutta !) and Dominic I-don't-remember-his-name-sorry! is a fine subtle guitar player.(Name's Miller-Has he some family connection with Phil Miller who played with Hatfield and the North?) One of the chorus girls reminds me of Susan Sarandon, so maybe I should drink some more coffee, it's too early.... Maserati!! That's it! I know where I had the same feeling, there's a Maserati seller down the corner, and I sometimes walk the dogs (Just-a-walkin', yeah!-teedeeedeedeedee!) on their parking lot, we -not me, they! - love to poo in the vicinity of these cars, dunnowhy....Nicely designed cars, with a zest of bling, performing engines under the hood, interesting tin-pan exhaust-pipes noise, meant for upwards-moving bank advisors, perfect match for Berlutti shoes and Rolex watches . Then,a beaten Citroën 2 CV passes by,it takes the turn on the two left wheels, there's an old lady who is blind as a bat behind the wheel, and you just feel "Yeaaaaah!"(Insert Daltrey's "Won't get fooled again" scream here!!)....Know what I mean?

She is a consummate classically trained professional who happens to have been smart enough to make millions wearing dresses made of meat and shoes like this all the while championing anyone who’s different from what society calls “normal”.

Because her popular schtick is so over the top she is often ignored by people who can’t see past such things. She is an enormous talent that Tony Bennett recogniized immediately.

Her fans call themselves “little monsters” and her “mother monster”.

+1.

And let's not forget her great performance in "A Star is Born".

She was great in that movie. Huge talent. And I think she is sexy as hell without all of her Gaga makeup.

All the above can certainly be true. It doesn't mean she didn't go over the top for the song. My wife came in the room and asked what I was listening to. When I told her, she said " I didn't recognize the song at all. " . If that was the goal, then she nailed it. If the goal was to do a solid version of the Police song, then it was over the top. In my view, a solid version would have had anyone who knew the song to have instantly recognized it and asked " Who is that doing a cool version of King of Pain? " not, " What are you listening too? "

Hey, that's just my view, and obviously not everyone's. It's music do what you want with it. I'll keep my opinion and you can keep yours.

I think it was perfect! Energized!! FABULOUS!!! Nothing "over the top" about it. Why do it the "same old way" again. That's been done. Oh well..... you like what you like.

I mean, Sting seemed to like it and he wrote it.

Tom,

Yep. With music, we all have our preferences and they don't have to be the same.

I like Lindsey Buckingham stuff. Here are links to two versions of the same song done very differently. I would bet, most would prefer the original. I find the guitar work on the second version very cool. It's certainly not the same. Is the second one over the top for some. I suspect it is at the end. I just focus on the guitar.

Gary,

You are throwing out some non sequitur replies, if you think about it. My impressions don't change if she is classically trained or not or if Sting thought it was cool or not. I'm not laying down some musical law, I'm just saying I would have preferred a less frantic version of the song.

I can't imagine the adrenaline she was dealing with. I know she's a pro performer but duet, new material, "Happy Birthday", big crowd reaction. I struggle with tempo in front of a small bar crowd...
