Hello everyone,

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I recently bought F-512E MPL with a serial no. C218312. I wondered whether I’m
reading this correctly. The guitar has been made in 2021, and it’s 83rd F-512 that year?
Gibson has a full date on their serial numbers but I don’t think new Guild nomenclature is like that. Please educate me! :)

Welcome aboard, Zhel!!

Great purchase! Hope you enjoy it!

Yes on 2021. No on 83rd of the year. The digits after the 21 are not the related to the day of the year. All we know is 2021.

Best wishes! And, again, welcome aboard!

Thank you, Chazmo!
Yes, the guitar is amazing, by far the best 12 strings I ever played (for my style at least)
Thank you for this info! Is there any way to understand what these other numbers mean? Perhaps, I should contact them directly, and try for the best?
Thanks! A great forum btw!

The remaining digits have something to do with the production number, Zhel, but not the date. Production from Oxnard, CA has been using this scheme since they took over Guild USA.

@SFIV1967 , do you have any table or further info on the digits after the year (C21, in Zhel's case)?

In 2021 that was the number of guitars built in Oxnard since production started in 2016. So the 8,312 th guitar made in Oxnard.

In 2022 Oxnard reset the numbering and now it is reset every year:

Last year they built a little over 2000 guitars. I can't wait to see how many guitars were made this year (approximately). :)

I moved GG's Oxnard Serialization thread over to acoustic section and pinned it. - C

@Zhel see that thread for more information. As I said, you won't be able to figure out much about those numbers after the year. Again, welcome aboard!

Do we really know that for sure, GG? Perhaps there are gaps in this running serial number that we don't know about. Not to throw a monkey wrench into your calculation, but you know how these things go.

Looking at the numbers from 2016 to 2021 a number >2,000 in 2022 makes sense to me. During 2019 (before Covid) they already made > 2.123 guitars looking at the running numbers.

Oh, I know! I have a bunch of Oxnard numbers that are out of sequence and don't fit the pattern. When humans serialize things, mistakes happen. Then there are rejects/returns that get destroyed, serials that weren't used, etc. It's all just approximate anyway. Just like at all the other Guild factories. :)

Well, Tacoma and New Hartford used a date-oriented serial number which (IMO) made things much easier to interpret (and extrapolate). But, yes, the same is true of Westerly and Hoboken with Guild. No idea of the real numbers...
