Here's the ca. 1920-27 Gibson L-4 I bought for my fiance's birthday (our birthday, actually; we were 11 hours apart). He died in July. Here is his self-portrait with that incredible instrument. Thought some of you would like to see it.

Barbara,

Sorry for your loss.

Beautiful guitar, what a wonderful gift. Obviously you loved the man.

You're gonna do well here.

Barbara, so sorry for your loss.

That Gibby was one heck of a birthday gift! Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks so much for posting the pic. Gibsons are my other love.

And welcome to LTG, or as I like to call it, the asylum!! Quite a cast of characters 'round here..............

Thank you for your sympathies, everyone. I've been pretty much living in a dark cave for the past several months since Robert died, but slowly have regenerated myself through music. Robert was an awesome bass, guitar, and piano player, and had talent with a capital "T." After he died, I couldn't even listen to the radio for about a month. But now I've kind of rediscovered my guitars, which brought me to this site. Do you know, I have never done a thing to my F-512? Apart from taking it to Matt Umanov when I first bought it for necessary repairs, it's just sat very quietly in its case when I wasn't playing it. I don't have a humidifier. I don't polish the fretboard. I don't polish the body. I don't polish my own damn shoes. Again, thanks to this forum, I realize what a shoddy caretaker I've been.

So the humidifiers are coming in soon, and I'm going to pick up a bottle of that bore oil or Dr. Canogulator's Buffenshine or whatever it is and get cracking on my instruments! They've waited long enuf.

Interestingly, my 12 year old is now expressing interest in learning how to play. So we have lemonade from lemons.

Has anyone ever thought of getting all of us 12-stringers together for a giant jam? To meet somewhere "in the middle," if there is such a thing? Can you imagine the sound we would make?

Cheerios,
Barbara

Arlington, next October. Sooner somewhere else??, maybe March at CJ's. Margaritaville??

I learned a lesson at the last meet; 12 strings sound pretty big & there's lots of pickers bring em.

I'm taking my new Starfire to the next jam, you guys can bring as many 12 strings as you want. Heck, we go to CJ's, he might lend me his SF & I could bring something else.

You just missed it, Barbara! Here's the link to discussions, photos and soundclips from the First Annual LTG Convention. It was held in Arlington, TX during the Texas Guitar Show in October - a huge event that Hans Moust (author of The Guild Guitar Book)attends every year. Arlington is pretty much "in the middle" and with the convention there it made sense.
Jammin' at The Yacht Club!

Some of us in the Northeast and in Florida and in California have gotten together once or twice, too. It won't be long before there will be another clambake of some sort. Stay tuned!

Oh, and welcome aboard!
Post well. Post often.

So glad that life didn't give you onions, because onionade is disgusting!

Cheerios,

Stay tuned Barb or take part and plan something. There was an attempt at a mini get together in PA this past September as well.

After the success in Arlington I believe many folks will be eager to get somewhere and meet up.

CJ and the Floridanistas are trying to get together sometime and there are some Eastern Seaboard types and Mid Westerners so anything is possible.
