for "blatant disregard of the rules."

I expressed my sadness over all the shootings in Chicago this past weekend, and made a plea for someone to start a chapter of "Guitars Not Guns" in South Chicago, as there is no chapter in Chicago currently.

I thought my post was reasonable and positive; apparently not. It wasn't political in the least.

Once again, I think the moderators need to chill out, and ban the stupid comments, not the reasonable ones.

Well as a moderator I can imagine a problem. If you just say "Guitars, Not Guns" there are people who are going to only read the last two words and go all political. Having made the effort to read what their mission is, I would not object but I can see many ways things would go wrong. Of course Moderation here tends to be Moderate. Bans are extremely infrequent and usually aimed at people whose intent is pretty clearly not to discuss Guild guitars.

Yeah, this looks like a great program for mentoring high-risk kids. I'm pretty sure there must be another Jimi Hendrix out there...and Duane Allman quit high school to play guitar...

And so you introduce it here as a "look what i got banned for over 'there', can you believe it?" thread and so far it seems to have worked except for one or two posts. This is a very clever tactic...... did you plan it like this or what?

I think he has tickets to the Moderators Lounge and wants to watch GAD and me thrash this out.

All current events are political.

Debate.

:)

No Tom - I just trust the people here on LTG are more intelligent and less combative.

People just love guns bro. I am not a gun guy myself, but respect others responsible ownership of guns. I know a lot of guitar guys are super into guns. Our own Richard P. is probably the founder of "guns AND guitars," and that guy wouldn't hurt a grasshopper (better chance he would play a song for it on a Guild F-50, or something of that nature).

This is really the only forum I am on regularly. i try to stick generally to the guitar stuff. if one of my LTG buddies starts a thread that he was buying roofing shingles at home depot and then tripped on a diamond back terrapin in the parking lot...i probably have something better to do.

the guitars not guns post is certainly well intended and relates to guitars, but the gun thing is just a super political issue. the mods on a fender forum are not going to have that, i can see why that was a problem. have to say though ultimately, i am super impressed u got kicked off the tele forum! whatever the circumstances...that is awesome!! just post your tele questions here, instead of there.

*snicker*

If you actually look at what the organization claims to do it is about putting guitars into kids' hands and giving them lessons so they aren't on the street doing whatever kids on the street with too much time and no sense of direction do. The willingness of people to merely read the name and comment on guns is precisely why posts about the organization are problematic.

I made the decision the OP was potentially safe. GAD lightheartedly disagreed with me. This post and others like it are going to force me to admit GAD was right.

Note that we're still all friends. If we weren't there would have been massive edits or the Disappearing Thread.

I think it's about encouraging creativity and refocusing kids to avoid "idle hands" and we all know what they do. And it's also trying to refocus towards the creativity vs. violence and mischief. Which is all good and well. Seems like a good idea, but as soon as they use the word GUN in naming it or referring to it, it automatically becomes political because that's what guns are. They aren't really but today in the world GUNS are a polarizing topic, so in a way they've taken something good and saddled it with mischosen words which cause trouble. That's my take. Probably a really good idea that's been bogged down with a poor choice of title or reference.

I'm not interested in the TDPRI policies, dread, but I am very careful about having people avoiding offensive subjects, especially due to the multi-national user base that we have here. Guns, in particular, are not a comfortable subject for many of our European members, and therefore I try to steer away from that. As a gun owner and registered trapshooter, I very much love to discuss guns, but not here.

Having said all that, I wouldn't ban someone here for going off the rails a bit in terms of taste. Man, it's happened many times here. Personal flames, pornography, spam, and actual, literal political discussion could lead to banning, but really only after repeated offenses or something particularly egregious.

As a whole, the LTG community is indeed pretty high-minded and it's pretty rare these days that we have to even intervene and edit or delete posts even. You guys know what pushes our buttons, and frankly none of us likes to censor anything. There used to be a serious all-boys club here back in the day, but I don't see that anymore.

But, don't forget.... we are watching!!!... :D :D

Hey, I'm not anti-gun, I've been a responsible gun owner since age 12.

I just thought it was a great idea to put guitars in the hands of some at-risk kids as an alternative.

Don't much care about being banned from TDPRI either, not gonna lose any sleep over it.
