My wife is a Facebook user. I'm not. It never did appeal to me.

I do enjoy reading the posts of Lets Talk Guild. I don't post much but I really enjoy reading informative low key, no drama posts on this site.

Our local newspaper decided "We are going to monitor all reader's comments and edit them accordingly." Oh, good luck with that! How ironic for a newspaper to act as a censor.

I told then they might as well just allow all users to delete the comments they find offensive, that would save them a lot of work...

It can be a good resource, and as long as I choose friends wisely and stay away from the stupid crap, it works for me.
Because I'm passionate about photography, it has been invaluable in many ways.
I've been able to find and connect with family members, and reconnecting with old friends has been a joy, also.

For those folks that didn't move around a lot or stayed close to home maybe the value of FB would be slim. We moved every 2 years or so when I was growing up and Facebook allowed me to get back in touch with folks that otherwise would have stayed in the dim recesses of my mind. I spend only 15 - 20 minutes some days in the morning and do not have any alerts activated. It is also beneficial for some hunting dog groups and rescues I occasionally visit so for me it has a value.

I live 2400 miles away from my (grown) children and grandchildren. I keep a FB account in order to see what is going on with them. There are a few groups of interest. Most individual posts are mundane, or highly political. I tend to ignore this. But, I would not keep a account of not for the family affiliation. The constant brain washing, tracking ads, and perceived invasion of privacy are concerning. Luckily I recognize this, (most of the time), and do not get invoolved. The generation's preceding us would have been mortified.

sometimes i take a great family pic or record a song i like or something, and i want to go post it to FB and say hello, but then i stop myself, knowing how it will all eventually go down. i will start to post other stuff that is not helpful and thus, be back in the turmoil.

so i just send the pic to my Mom or something lol

When Facebook was new, I actually took the time to read their EULA, and so I never joined.

I can't say that my life has been somehow diminished by this choice.

There are members of family Facebook groups, particularly European members, who have leaned on me a bit to relent and join, but to date, I have politely ignored all pressure.

:)

Well we've had this discussion before, over and over. So now on the anniversary of your leaving FB, you think it's necessary to bring it all up again and launch a "hate fest" against it. How very negative and boring. Hash and rehash, again and again.

FB is what you make it. If it's a horrible, evil monster I might suggest that you're using it wrong. I find it entertaining and it also helps me keep in contact with many old friends and equestrian pals that I've lost touch with. If you expect everyone to agree with you, you probably should avoid social media altogether.

I can hardly wait for the next anniversary......:rolleyes:

My daughter quit FB a few years ago and doesn't really miss it all that much.

She found that she ended wasting a lot of time with people from as far back as elementary school, people whom she hadn't really liked much at the time and had never been friends with. Her FB interactions with them only convinced her that her first impressions were valid.

And then with real friends, she found that she knew everything about their lives right down to the level of what they had for breakfast. She discovered that when she actually met up in person, it was awkward. There was nothing to make small talk about. It was all already known.

Every two months?? We KNOW how you feel about this, because you've told us numerous times. It's fine. Keep posting. I'll just cope as best I can. Sorry to ruffle, but....... I think frono linked to your two previous posts about this. You don't have to hit us over the head every couple of months. You left FB. I get it. You're happy about that decision. I get that. Can we let it go now? Maybe not......

Is your string drawer still as compulsively organized as the last time we saw it? 😀
