black coffee
two scoops of grounds for one coffee cup of water

3-4 times a day.

i start at like 630 and finally finish by 10 or 1030. there was this USC study that says 19% of people who drink 5-6 cups of coffee a day live longer. wait, is that a good %?

I quit coffee (and booze) about 2 weeks ago as part of an attempt to get rid of a lingering cough. Headaches for 3 days now I’m coffee free. I do love a good cup first thing in the morning though.

congrats mike!

I drink about a pot a day. The pot says 12 cups, but it's more like 4 or 5 coffee cups. I like my music upbeat.

Yeah. Those pot markers are way off. 6 cups is really 2. Etc.

Actually, they're not.

A "customary cup" is 8oz (1/16 of a gallon), but a coffee cup is 4oz, supposedly thanks to "Mr. Coffee" who introduced the 5oz volume pre-brew in the '70s.

Naturally, Americans like things big so we tend to think of a "cup" as filling a 12 or 16oz mug.

I've never taken a coffee maker's definition of "cup" literally. I can tell you how many "cups" it takes to create 2 servings for each of the favorite coffee mugs.

I was always amused by a carafe that had two sets of numbered markings. One was the fill marking when getting water and one was the content marking that measured the coffee left in the carafe. They were different because not all the water that went in came out as coffee.

When you say 4oz, I think you mean, espresso. 😀

Be careful Woody. As we get older, our ability to deal with stress and heightened caffeine intake are related, not to mention troubling getting to sleep. Just saying....

I'm like dreadnut. I find myself drinking less and less coffee. First thing in the morning I enjoy my mug of coffee, but rarely finish it these days. Then I'll reheat a bit in the afternoon, but find that I finish less and less of it as the years roll by. I have trouble sleeping sometimes and so after say 2pm I'm totally done for the day. I do enjoy a cup of REALLY GOOD coffee, but those usually present themselves when I'm somewhere later than 2pm so I just skip it in favor of a better night's sleep. Speaking of which, I'd better go flip the switch on the coffee maker. It's already 8:15!!

I can quit coffee anytime I want. I'd just switch to dark chocolate. :)

What helped a lot to get me off the coffee quickly is tea. I have one cup of black tea first thing in the morning and then herbals from there on. So I am getting a little caffeine boost to get my motor running.

I am a nut for high quality loose Darjeeling which I buy form Upton Tea Imports. No affiliation.

ya know Rich, these are the two main issues I have been struggling with for a good 3 years now. I think I am glad I posted this thread, as now I realize I do need to cut WAY back on coffee. I like Mikey's idea of black tea. We got Typhoo in the house which is fantastic. Probably need 2 cups to start, not just 1, but at least, I need to cut back to 3 cups of coffee, then 2, then 1 strong cup. Finally, move to tea. I plan to start today, as I just finished my 3rd cup and the key will be NOT to brew any more...

thanks guys!
