I taught myself to play that way as a teenager because I read that was how Glenn Campbell played.

Since, I've switched to a thumbpick and first three fingers (acrylic nails), 'cause I think it is more versatile for fingerstyle, but I can still go back to the hybrid way with a bit of effort.

I'm mainly a picker, but "hybrid" fingerpicking is how I do it when I fingerpick. I'm uncomfortable without a pick b/w my thumb and forefinger.

Nice link, though, this guy is very good!

The first hybrid picker I was really aware of was Roger McGuinn during The Byrds heyday. Blew my mind!

When fingerpicking, I've used a plastic thumbpick and two National 0.013's since the mid 60's. I love the sound that combo produces and I'm halfway decent at it.

But despite MANY hours of practice, I just can't get down hybrid picking. I'm fine with just a flatpick or the three fingerpick setup just mentioned. But I can't do them together.

I'm 65 and running out of time... Maybe in my next life?

I play flatpick and fingers, and I can play "Cannonball Rag" and "Chinatown my Chinatown", but I wouldn't call myself a fingerpicker!!
