Yes, it is a wick type Ralph. I've really had a great run with mine. and it's probably the best $150 I've ever spent. I hope you're doing OK down there. Finally got through to Toni, and she told me that a warm up is on the way after this storm

Is yours the one that has the wheel inside with the ring going around keeping the wick on top wet?

We're doing fine here in the NE Dallas area. My house seems to be well built for the cold. We lost internet, TV, and landline for a day. It might be slowing or halting the vaccine shot.

Mine have filters that double as wicks. If you dry them out completely at the end of the winter, you can reuse them the next. And I prefer them to the humidifiers that mist, which I think aren't quite as even as the ones with wicks/filters.

Mostly with temperature I think it's about stability. Guitars can take gradual temperature changes and acclimate to a lower or higher temp. I think it's mostly fast temp changes that are a problem. In winter (like now) my house goes down to 65 at night and no higher than 70 during the day. Here in the desert we have maybe ONE MONTH where things change drastically and we don't need either heat nor a/c. Then once it makes the shift to hot before going to hot-as-hell, we keep the a/c set at 74. I think that's comfortable for us. I'm sure the guitars could handle more, but I can't. Humidity is more important than temp, I believe, unless it super extreme.

I’m up at 45% and steady temps in the 60s! I may still invest in one of the recommended humidifiers but glad I can get the room where I need it with what I’ve currently got on hand!

I use a combination of humidifier (Homemedics) and Boveda pouches (49%) in the cases. The Homemedics is effective at keeping the room between 40 - 45% during the driest weather.
