For the case, just get a plastic soap dish. Drill some holes in the lid. Get a new kitchen sponge, cut to fit..instant redneck Planet Waves.

I like having a room humidifier also.

I use a room humidifier, since I keep all my guitars out. In the summer down in Florida, the airconditioner does a great job of keeping the humidity at good levels. In the winter, it gets drier, and if I run the heater, it really drys out the air. Get a humidity gauge and monitor it closely.

If you are keeping it in the case, then try a case humidifier. Plus if it gets really dry where you live, your sinuses will thank you for the room humidifier.

Yeah, I am talking case here. Oddly enough, I sell humidifiers for a living yet have no place for one in my home. Plus, I'm not only space challenged, but I've got 2 dogs. Guss is gonna have to live in his case.

What part of the country do you live in?

I have the JP humidifiers and they work very well. Compared with regular Damp-Its, the JPs do seem to have more capacity and thus go a few more days without needing to be wet down. I case my guitars through the winter, even though I have a room humidifier which I use frequently -- I don't leave the humidifier on all the time, so the environment is kind of variable in that room. This year I'm using less soundhole humidification and mostly going with sponges in perforated ziplocs in the peghead part of the case. I think it was a little bit overkill last year when I did both in each case. Some of my cases started sweating glue a bit.

The only thing I've noticed about my JPs is that the surgical tubing has a slight odor which I don't particularly like. Standard damp-its don't.

I use soundhole humidifiers Tony, Kyser "Lifeguard" to be exact....let me see if I can find a picture. I start using them when the central heat comes on. It's got a sponge inside, you fill the sponge with water, ring out all of the excess water, then stick her in the soundhole.

The JP humidifiers are my favorite type too - although I think mine might be a different brand. I agree they are slightly better than the Damp-its. I'm sure other types are good as well, but it does seem to complicate things when hypodermic needles and such are involved.

I use the Kyser sound hole one and two sponges in baggies placed at the heel of the neck and the headtock.
