The Funny Papers P49 Never Buy A Gilled Guitar.

The craziest ( best ) days of LTG. Some wickedly silly stuff. Such a pity the images in the posts are no longer available.

Hey, great to see you here Gary! I think so many of images got swallowed by the great Photobucket debacle.

I guess some things aren't forever on the internet. Kinda like us, and a lot of our members.

Hey Gary! Random info - I have a student in one of my classes who is in NZ. Zooming in because of COVID. FYI, the school is outside Boston, MA. The time difference has been a struggle but he's handling it well!

i mostly miss that time in general, as there was no twitter then, and facebook was only in its infancy, my social media was basically AGF and LTG, and LTG I did not last on long to start, and people were just not that divided yet.

even for 2008, it was a simpler, kinder time.

An '08 member list is possible but I'd have to write some code and massage the database since all the scripts I'd written were for the old board and no longer work.

Well, if you're going to write some queries, let's ask what's the point? While that is normally a snarky comment, in this case it might be worthwhile figuring out what data is of interest so that one query will generate a spreadsheet that folks can play with to their heart's content. I think I would want user name, join date, date of first post, date of most recent post and date of most recent visit. We can discuss whether banned or deleted accounts should be included. I don't care about post count particularly but it might be more useful to filter on "# posts > 0".

It also might be time to revive the idea of hosting spreadsheets at GAD.net. I can imagine a web form that generates and runs a query and the user can download the results as a csv or tab-delimited file. Maybe run against a sanitized, cleaned up, read only copy of the database? You don't need me to tell you how ;-)

I'm more curious about how many members we had then vs. now.

Join dates are already displayed next to our user names.

If you look at old threads like this one, it gives you an idea of who was active and posting and that's good enough for me. I don't need someone to go to a lot of trouble to generate a "historical wish list" for me to ponder. Pull up some old threads and read 'em. It's like In My Life, you know? "Some are gone and some remain." Good enough for me...... (y)

Well I have often wondered what I would do or how long it would take me to get bored if I I had access to a static read only instance of the LTG, the associated schema and ability to submit queries...
