So I got these ebony Starfire bass saddles from Guild and going to cut them for use on my Starfire bass.
I have the files in the string guages I want.
Do I cut the slots level, all the way from front of saddle to back, or cut them at an angle, following the angle of the string as it passes over the saddle, just like you would on the nut, following the angle of the strings as they pass over it.

None of my factory cut saddles are angled. From that I infer that it either doesn't make a noticeable difference to the player or it cost more to cut on an angle.

If I did it I'd probably be trying for straight and end up with angled anyway :)

Thanks. I went ahead and cut them straight!! Alignment over pickups perfect.
They are super tight sliding them onto the paddles. Hope they are supposed to be tight like that. They did not break or anything when I slid them on. If this is how the factory intended then it is definitely a tight friction fit and they ain’t moving once installed. Tighter than rosewood. I used to be able to slide all four rosewood saddles over by hand as one unit. These won't budge unless individually moved.

They sound great, praise the Lord!
I have Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on it now. They give Chromes a run for their money. Just as bright if not brighter, if you are into bright flats.
