Okay if it's from late '86 or early '87 it will have the date stamped into the headstock back underneath the serial number and "Made in USA".

serial number puts it in that late 1980’s date and it has the ”made in USA” on the headstock

Ad is wrong. Easier to read the SN from the pic of the label:

s-l500.jpg

FK100390 dates it to 1983.
If that is indeed the case, I would have serious misgivings about everything the seller has to say about being the original owner….. and everything else he includes in the detailed description of the guitar and why he is parting with it that appears in the information at the end of the listing.

Plus one for either waiting until late fall or finding a nice used one. I love maple and I love rosewood, but in my experience we are talking about two discernable tonal profiles. I have a RW F-55 ( the 6 string version of what you are looking at ) and I can tell you now I will one day own a Maple F-50 / F-55 new or used because it will sound different enough.

Quick Maple story: I was in Zoo music Garland, TX on Saturday picking up an extra mic before my gig. Also nabbed a well-priced NOS Fender Vibro Champ XD ( killer amp in the 5w category ), but I digress. A musician came in with a Maple F-50 that was well played but structurally in great condition - played beautifully as it should have. He told me the story about how a year ago he found it in its case at a Goodwill marked at $195... He said he dropped $200 on the counter and got out of there as quickly as he could. He also said he ran every light going home :)
I better get over to Goodwill asap. I must say I've taken an unusual sudden interest in pawn shops, garage sales, estate sales and thrift stores since picking up guitar again a few months ago. Stories like this one are fuel for the fire! Especially for maple!

I'm so impatient I can't even order a guitar online. I'm strictly cash and carry. I want to buy what I play and play what I buy. I know that might not always be possible but so far so good. :)

I have traded a few messages with this guy through eBay and got him straightened out on the year. Ths site - https://www.guitarinsite.nl/SERIENUMMERS-fgm_eng.php - says it's an 1983. After what he has had to say in these messages I think he's telling the truth on the original owner thing.

No affiliation.

but me calling is not a good thing . I don’t pull no punches I’d probably say something they don’t like . Lol 😂🤣

Goodwill is kind of like playing the lottery. I think the big shock in this guy's story is that everyone has a smart phone. How could they not know some idea of what they had? I used to love pawn shops in the 90's and early 2000's.. I find pawn shops in and around major cities price things way out of whack if they have anything at all.. It seems like every pawn shop has an obligatory black Epi SG with 5 strings..

actually, if the epi had good fretwork, and solid workmanship, I would buy a 5 string epi SG in a heartbeat.

I love epis. It's just you always find the one that came in the box with an amp.. Big difference between that one and an Epi SG Custom... I put the higher end epiphone electrics and acoustics on a high level when it comes to quality for a budget...

yeah, but what better way to get a good base unit where you can muck around with the electronics and try out new pots, caps, and pickups?

Hi,

I have an F-412 Blonde I ordered and purchased in 1984. It was just serviced and set-up with new strings by Tom Jacobs, is in PERFECT condition, and is still in shipping box from him. If you might be interested in it, please let me know.

It is NOT inexpensive, sorry...new ones street price is @$4400...so...

Cheers,

Richard

For the benefit of all who have followed your original post and the story of the subsequent reconditioning you had done by Tom, probably would be best to post this in FS/FT section with an asking
price if you’d like to get the ball rolling.

Hi,

Yes, you are correct, but when I saw this post I thought I would try to contact the person and avoid all that. Not sure I am selling right now, but wanted to give this person a shot if still interested. If not, I am probably going to keep it a while before posting a formal "for sale" ad.

Cheers,

Richard

Honestly, unless I can hold it in my hands and see it, I don't by used...of anything. Not cars, houses, computer or guitars. And no, I don't trust pictures either.

I am sure that your 38 year old guitar is something spectacular to someone, but it's not my cup of tea.

I guess I got soured on "used" items when I had to deal with people trying to pass off complete pieces of junk as "clean" used cars and houses which were badly constructed and needed significant structural work to make sound. On some of them, the only thing clean on it might have been the title....maybe.

I hear you. I purchase and restore older cars, so I have seen some doozies in my time as well. As for houses, you can be there every day with the builder and still have TONS of issues. Building a house is fraught with compromises no matter how much you spend--local laws and requirements are sometimes the least of the issues!

However, since Tom just finished with it, I would guess you would be pretty satisfied. I don't know where you live, but you are more than welcome to come play it anytime you wish. I live in South Florida, FYI. If that is close to you, just let me know.

If not, you clearly know what you want, so enjoy your new F-412 if you are not in my area.

Cheers!

PS I have never seen a "perfect" 100 point restoration on a car either, or a even new one that is "perfect."

My brother lives in Ocala, but I am a 24 hour drive (or more) to south Florida. Good luck to you. As I said, i am sure someone will be thrilled with it and I will be happy for them.
